The Boss is everywhere. The Golden Globes, The Inauguration, and this week… The Super Bowl. What is it, 1985? I’m not the biggest Springsteen fan, but it’s great to see some real music and real artists breaking through all the junk that’s out there right now and Bruce Springsteen is still the real deal. I’m sure he’s not terribly excited about hitting the road to support this new album, but with all the critical acclaim its gotten, how can you not? He doesn’t seem like the guy that likes touring, but he can sure put on a show and I’m sure that the Super Bowl will be one big advertisement for this upcoming tour. Working on A Dream, the new single, has just been released on the radio so expect to be hearing it ALOT. Also, don’t be surprised when it pops up as background music to some American Idol or Extreme Makeover: Home Edition montage.

You can listen to Working On A Dream and read my review here.

Is Meryl Streep ready to “Rock”?

On Tuesday, The New York Daily News claimed in its Gatecrasher column, that “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin had asked Streep to guest star on the hit NBC comedy at Sunday’s SAG awards. And, the story claimed, Streep had agreed.

If you’re any older than 25 than you might have an idea about the fact that Meryl Streep can actually be pretty funny! Then again, she could be just an incredibly well rounded actress, which I’m sure not many would debate. Her career has been on fire over the past few years, but I think an appearance on 30 Rock would certainly bring her even more so to the mainstream. Most of the movies she’s made lately have been chick flicks, so until a few weeks ago I hadn’t seen The Devil Wears Prada but I don’t think I’ll be subjected to Mamma Mia unless there’s some nookie as a reward afterwards. I honestly can’t wait to see Doubt but that’s mostly because of my appreciation of Philip Seymour Hoffman in just about any movie. Given 30 Rock‘s track record of guest stars, this wouldn’t surprise me as some figure-heads putting some feelers out there to see if it’ll work.

Kelly Clarkson, music legend?

Pop star Kelly Clarkson has made the largest ever leap to number one in US chart history, rising 96 places.

Her single, My Life Would Suck Without You, rose from 97 to the top of the Billboard chart after selling 280,000 downloads in its first week of release.

The success has prompted Clarkson’s record label to release her album, All I Ever Wanted, a week early.

The corporate music industry wins. I give up. I posted this song the day it came out here, and although I thought I had shared my views on this song, it must have been my internal lack of excitement for this song that stopped me from gracing this site with my thoughts. So here it goes:

It’s your formulaic Kelly Clarkson song. It starts with a light guitar riff, she sings softly, and by the end of the song you’d swear she’s about to tear a vocal cord. Rinse and repeat. Congrats to KC, may she continue to be nourished by the proverbial teet of Clive Davis. The man is a genius and possibly the biggest culprit of the homogenization of the music industry.
