“Important Things with Demetri Martin” is a stream-of-consciousness sketch and variety show from comedian Demetri Martin. Each episode focuses on a single topic through the prism of Demetri’s unique point of view, whether it’s apples or the afterlife.
ITwDM premiered tonight, and although I only caught the last half of the show, it looks promising. I’ve always liked Demetri Martin’s Comedy Central specials, but wasn’t really sure if he had the goods for a sketch comedy show. To be honest, I would’ve taken monkeys riding bicycles over another season of Carlos Mencia, and fortunately it seems like no one is missing that show. Martin’s deadpan delivery and timing takes a little getting used to, but his sketches bring out a whole new side of the up-and-coming comedian. I caught the entire sketch of the clip I have below, and it’s funnier than70% of the stuff I’ve been seeing on SNL. If you want a pretty funny sketch/stand-up show that doesn’t necessarily take much brain power, the drop down to first gear and check this one out.
