Apatow-grown A-List comedic actor Steve Carell and fellow Office cast member Ed Helms are taking on a pretty goofy plot for an upcoming comedic film regarding the Civil War and time travel.
Helms would play a civil war re-enacter, someone who is obsessive about historical precision – stitch count in a coat, buttons from the period, proper speech, etc. He and three other guys (two fellow re-enacters and an African-American professor of history who is protesting the event) are accidentally transported back in time and awaken in the actual civil war. Once there, they have find there way home without altering history or permanently breaking America in half.

Now before I get slammed in the comments, I know, Steve Carell and Ed Helms were actually BOTH products of The Daily Show with John Stewart. Although if Carell hadn’t jumped on the Apatow train, he wouldn’t have 40-year-old Virgin, Anchorman, and others to claim on his resume. In the same respect, if it weren’t for The Office, most of us might not even recognize Ed Helms if we saw him on the street. Regardless, it seems like Carell is producing this film, but I would find it hard to believe that he wouldn’t work his way into the script and camera somehow. I loved Ed Helms on The Daily Show, but he might be one of my least favorite characters on The Office, so we’ll have to see how this shapes out.
