Jonathan Rhys Meyers visited Regis & Kelly this morning to promote the latest season of the Showtime hit The Tudors. He discusses how he was discovered at the age of 15 in a bar in his native Ireland, his love of Los Angeles, working with John Travolta, where he vacations, and playing Henry the VIII.
If you are not watching The Tudors, what’s wrong with you?! Catch is Sundays on Showtime!

He may be incredibly sexy and good looking, but he is also incredibly stupid. To call a murder like Henry VIII an extraordinary man in a complimentary way is like calling Hitler a great guy. If you didn’t agree with Henry, you were dead. He murdered at will his wives, friends, cousins. ps: Jonathan your an Irishman. On Henry VIII orders half the country was slaughtered. What is wrong with you.
“extraordinary” means extreme — it can mean extremely wonderful or extremely horrible. I won’t insult you as you have insulted JRM but perhaps you should think through your comments a bit before you post them.
I agree with Fran, anyway, think about the position Henry VIII found himself in. A monarch was never a stable figure, he could be assassinated at any time and the court was a place filled with snakes. A weak monarch was a dead monarch. It was usually a case of kill or be killed. We in England are fascinated by him because he helped make this country great and tore us away from the murdering Catholic Dictators in Rome (Inquisition anyone?). Show me a monarch or figure in authority who hasn’t murdered for political or personal gain, even today it goes on! Hardly a country in the world is guilt free.
