So now for some Heroes!
For those of you wanting to know when our favorite casts will get back to creating some amazing new episodes, Adrian says they are heading back to the studio on June 8th.
Some of the things you will read in the rest of this interview are speculation. Adrian says he does not know what will happen to Nathan next season but he did share with me what he thinks should happen to his character.
I wondered if he believes that Parkman’s magic over Sylar could really work long term? During the preview for next season we begin to see how traits of Sylar’s begin to peak through Nathan.
I think ideally it should be like a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde type of thing. It should be that the two people within are trying to gain power over Nathan’s body since Sylar’s body is no longer. But there were a lot of hints that were dropped in the last episode that nobody has talked about yet. There were lots of subtle hints. Things that Jack Coleman (Noah) said that you will find that they play out. Where Sylar’s body came from, we know that wasn’t really Sylar’s body that was being burned so that’s going to be coming back as an issue.
It’s going to become the battle for the duality of man, the good and the bad. Somebody who does all these good things in his life suddenly does something horrible. It’s like Sylar/Nathan and their duality between their wants and their desires and which one is gonna win. They are going to be fighting each other, trying to trip each other up. So that to me seems like an interesting place to go.
Reader Cassie Settle wanted to know whether the Nathan/Sylar situation would be kept a secret from Peter, Claire and the others or would it culminate over a series of episodes.
I don’t think you can keep those people in the dark for too long or their going to look stupid. I think they have to find out before too long or at least one of them does, I need help covering who I am. I will need some help from the outside, I’ll need some people working with me.
I feel that this year we have a chance, we have a shot. There is no irony that this season is called, “Redemption.” For some of the fans who might have gotten frustrated, for some of the writers who may have gotten frustrated, this is our chance to come back strong. It would be foolish to mess this opportunity up.
We’re on the track, we’ve come back in a big way. It’s a challenging show to put on but when it works man, there’s nothing like it! It’s so rewarding and that’s what we’re shooting for.
Reader Natalie wanted to know more about the challenge Adrian would have playing the role of Sylar being Nathan.
That’s the initial mistake a lot of people made even on the set people said, “Hey Sylar would do this.” It’s not me playing Sylar, it would be Sylar playing Nathan. In a sense, Nathan is not trying to act like Sylar its Sylar trying to act like Nathan. So I’m coming at it through the back door. Its really reverse of what you think. All I have to do is take some of Zack’s mannerisms and stick them in every once in awhile and it looks much bigger than it is. It’s kind of like a trick painting.
I have to do a few little things and it will work if I do them correctly.
This magician is not giving away his secrets!
Here is the big question on most of our minds. Reader Kelly wanted to know if we can expect the real Nathan to emerge sometime during the next season. None of us want to accept that Nathan could finally die for good.
The first that came to my mind was, why didn’t they get some of Claire’s blood and revive him?
It would be foolish for me to pretend that its not a possibility, we’ve seen that anything can happen. I think that one of the things we’ve all learned from this whole thing is that we need to make some things stick. If you’re dead then you come back, then you were never really dead then the next time somebody dies it doesn’t mean anything. The people are like, “oh they’ll be back.” So I think somethings have to stick. Some people have to stay dead.
This answer worried me the most because if Nathan doesn’t win the battle against Sylar that could mean we would lose Nathan. I’m not willing to part with a Petrelli just yet.
Giselle wanted to know which death scene has been his favorite.
I don’t like any of them! Playing death is so….I try to get past it because nobody knows what its like to die and the only people that do know can’t tell you about it.
It’s not fun, I don’t like death scenes.
Twitter reader @sheindie wanted to know how the ending would have differed if Adrian would have written it. Would things have played out differently?
No, I think it was great. It was a game changer. It gave us a real place to go, a definitive launching pad. Now you are off in a whole new direction. The problems that Nathan was wrestling with seem minor compared to the ones he has to deal with now. Self preservation seems to always take precedence when you’re inhabited by a serial killer. I think that there’s an element of discovery that’s bigger with this structural change in the season finale than would have been if I hadn’t died. I’m thrilled the way it played out.
I was really curious as to the things that Noah said during the finale that Adrian says will play out next season. If you are curious like me, re-watch the Season Finale and chime in with your theories. Click here for the video.
In Volume 3 Adrian will answer some more of your questions. He talks to me about his relationship with his co-stars, his special bromance with Milo Ventimiglia AND he answer a very sexy question about this scene from the film, Just Like a Woman.
