Gerard Butler has been charged with misdemeanor criminal battery, L.A. City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan confirms to Usmagazine.com. Butler faces up to six months in jail if convicted, Mateljan added.

The hot Scott had an altercation with a paparazzo on October 7th in Hollywood after the premiere for his film, RocknRolla. It is alleged Butler punched the photog a few times in the lip at L.A.’s Crown Bar as he was getting into a limo.

He is due to be arraigned on June 10th.
