My Name is Earl saved?

I was surprised to hear so many people didn’t like NBC show My Name is Earl! I’ve been watching it since it first started four years ago and I was hooked. NBC canceled the show but TBS is in preliminary talks to bring it back for 13 episodes.

Its not certain though if talks will go further due to budget constraints.

The four-year-old “Earl” would make a good fit on TBS, which will start running repeats of the series starting in the fall as part of a deal with Twentieth inked in 2007.

Still, sources stressed that a deal for new episodes of “Earl” is still far from a lock as the two sides have to figure out if an expensive network single-camera series can be produced under a basic cable network’s economic model.

Also, while they’re still under a hold at 20th TV, the show’s cast has yet to be lined up for a lower-budget reincarnation of the series at TBS.

While it has been considered several times, a cable afterlife for canceled broadcast series has rarely panned out.

For instance, Showtime flirted with the idea of picking up Fox’s Emmy-winning single-camera comedy “Arrested Development” after it was canceled, but a deal couldn’t be reached.

I will keep my fingers crossed!

  1. I would LOVE to see Earl get picked up!!

I would also have loved it if SHO could have picked up Arrested Development. At least there’s a movie semi-in-the-works, if Michael Cera ever gets on board.

  2. I could swear that Cera finally did commit to doing the movie?! I will follow up on that one!
