It pains me to see a gorgeous stud like Christian Bale looking so gaunt! The former Batman babe is currently filming scenes from his new movie, The Fighter in Massachusetts. This film is based on the real life story of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward and his brother who helped train him before going pro in the mid ’80s.
Bales is playing the brother role of boxer-turned trainer-turned-drug addict Dickie Eklund who has actually been seen on set helping Bale nail the character. I’m sure Eklund must be proud to see the lengths an actor is going to to play him properly.
I can’t wait for this film to be over so Bale can plump back up!

I really love Christian Bale, but I hate when he does stuff like this, like in The Machinist a few years ago. The excessive weight-loss and weight-gain for roles is both unhealthy and annoying. Was he really just so “right” for the role that they couldn’t give it to someone else who was already more physically similar to the character?
Bleh.
Its called acting and being serious about your craft. This is one of the reasons he’s such a great actor. If all it took was casting someone who was thin then they could pull any crack addict off the street and feed him his lines. He does it because that’s what required of the role. If he doesn’t believe it then we won’t believe it.
