Upon completion of a most mordem in Mallorca, Spain yesterday it has been ruled that the death of Stephen Gately was due to natural causes.
An official said he suffered pulmonary oedema, which is an accumulation of fluid on the lungs. The court official said the pulmonary oedema had been “acute”.
She added that once the witness statements and tests are confirmed then the “case will be closed”.
Attorney for the family, Gerald Kean stated this morning his content over the news that no foul play was involved.
“We are absolutely happy that there is no foul play.”
“We are not saying he was not drinking but eight hours is not something we accept,” Mr Kean said.
“The family’s only wish is to get their son and brother home as soon as possible,” he said.
The remains of the 33-year-old singer will be released to the custody of his civil partner Andrew Cowles and family to take his body home to Ireland so funeral arrangements can be made.
