Lily Allen is not going to be too happy when she hears Joss Stone called her out! In a recent interview, Stone shared her thoughts on the fellow Brit’s stance on file sharing.
Lily Allen is “more of a personality than she is a singer”, Joss Stone said this week, dismissing Allen’s polemic against filesharing. “[Lily] needs to sell records because she’s not a singer, and that’s not an offence to her because I think that she knows that too,” Stone told the Press Association.
“She’s not going to win [the] fight [over downloads],” Stone said. “None of us will win that fight. So let’s just accept it and see it as something that can be beautiful and might change music for the better. It might sort the weeds from the flowers.”
In a show of support for her own music, Stone put up her house on the line so her record company EMI would release her latest album, Color Me Free.
She said: “It got to the point where I said, ‘Take my house and release the record’. The thing is, I just made an album and I wanted people to like it. I did not think anything of it. Why did it have to be a big deal? Why does it have to focus on being a number one song? F**k that, I can’t be bothered.”
The label agreed to release the album but has not dedicated any budget for its promotion.
“EMI were running a business. It’s not about you having a lovely time in the studio. so it’s got a low budget? That’s fine by me. I just wanted to have artistic freedom. I’m tired of all the silliness.
“We will cross our fingers and see what we can muster. We’ll maybe see what we can do ourselves.”
Color Me Free can currently be purchased on Itunes now and Amazon now!
