Puerto Rican duo Calle 13 took home Grammy gold last night. Residente and Visitante won all 5 Latin Grammy’s they were nominated for last night at the at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The boys won best album and best urban album for “Los de Atras Vienen Conmigo” and best short-form video for their work with salsa legend Ruben Blades on “La Perla.” They also won recording of the year and best alternative song for “No Hay Nadie Como Tu,” their collaboration with Mexican rockers Cafe Tacvba.
“To all the people who make music in this moment of independent music, to hell with record labels!” Residente said while accepting the alternative-song trophy, according to E! online. “This is the moment for those of us who make real music.”
He also dedicated the award to Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa, who died in October at age 74.
“May she rest in peace. An applause for Mercedes Sosa, please,” he said.
