Rihanna debuts latest Video “Russian Roulette”

With the release of up and coming diva, Rihanna’s latest album “Russian Roulette” just weeks away, the video for her title track “Russian Roulette” was debuted last night. The work portrays a darker side of Rihanna that most of us are not accustomed to.
I think it is safe to say that the days of the all smiles, bubble gum pop princess Rihanna, have come to an end. Not to say that we didn’t see it coming after she fell victim to assault by ex-boyfriend and R&B star Chris Brown several months back. Needless to say, this project was built around Rihanna shedding her young, puppy dog love image and opening the world up to a darker, more sinister side of the young performer. A side that maybe is a warning that she is a girl not to be messed with. Like many people who have experienced any sort of bullying, the need to come back harder and more forceful is usually the outcome. As a result, Rihanna, the “bad girl,” was born.
The video for “Russian Roulette” opens up as Rihanna seems to be locked up in some sort of futuristic prison.
With a gun on the table, she and another culprit begin an intense game of Russian Roulette. The video is filled with an artistically, grimacing overtone that may even be too much to handle for a more immature audience. The video is capped off with the scantily clad singer sinking in a body of water, with bullets whizzing around her and also piercing through her lifeless body.
The Barbados native has definitely grown from her “Umbrella” days, and I believe, is finally evolving into her own artist. Shedding the mold that was given to her by advisers in the music industry, she is now letting us in to a more intense portion of who she really is. This video is more than the debut for her most recent album. It is the debut and the release of a more mature, more well-rounded artist that is now Rihanna.
