Is Clive Owen ready to retire?

Film Premiere The Boys Are Back

British actor Clive Owen is ready to quit acting and focus more on theater work! Say it isn’t so!!

After a fruitful career in film he has a pretty incredible resume including roles in Gosford Park, The Bourne Identity, Closer, Sin City, and Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and Children of Men just to name a few.

He spoke with German TV Station Tele5 about his future ambitions.

He said: “I’m actually pretty sure that this will happen soon. I would imagine I’d have to stop the films in order to concentrate entirely on my stage career. I’ve always played theatre roles.”

“I often have to pinch myself to make me realize what I achieved. I’ve been working with the greatest people; I appreciate that very much and am very happy about it.

“But perhaps you should, on the peak of your career think about the fact that it probably can’t always go on like this and that there are other things that make you happy, too.”

Owen graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1987. Then he went on to working on stage in a few William Shakespeare plays including Romero & Juliet where he co-starred with his future wife Sarah-Jane Fenton.

Don’t quit Clive, we love you!!

  1. Hi Rosy,

Way back in 2001 I had honour of being a Technical Assistant Stage Manager at The Kings Head Theatre in Islington , London. Clive played the lead part in a very moving play entitled “A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg” He was amazing during the short run and a very easy guy to get on with. One of my daughters came down to see the show and he was kind and charming to her , as he was qith everbone else. Just think , if he does go through a spell of theatre work you can go along and see him for real, not just an image on the silver screen. Also live theatre is spontaneous, if there is a mistake, they cannot cry “cut” and reshoot the scene again.

Do not worry , just because he is giving up film acting does not mean he is giving up acting, and I would think he,s young enough to do some more Hollywood later on.

  2. Jay,
Thank you for sharing this lovely story about one of my favorite actors. I get so worried about how some will be in person and I’m so happy to hear that Mr. Owen did not disappoint.

I really do hope to be able to make it out to see him on stage.

    Thanks for reading,
    Rosy
