With the majority of positive acts by celebrities being overshadowed by that of the negative, actor Nicolas Cage has managed to break boundaries and receive some credit, as well as provide some optimism in celebrity news. The Academy award winner was presented with the UN award for humanitarian work and also appointed a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime.
Cage was presented the award by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; its official title being the U.N. Correspondents Association’s Global Citizen of the Year award for humanitarian endeavors. When addressing his newly entitled position as correspondent, the leading man said that his role was to shine a spotlight on the need for global justice.
Also upon receiving the award, $2 million was donated by the Amnesty International to a fund in order to aid in the recovery of child soldiers. The Amnesty International also headed up a campaign around Cage’s film “Lords of War,” in which to raise awareness on international arms control.
Constantly being bombarded with negativity in the media, stories such as this should far supersede that of the latest fashion, or who such and such is dating, or where he or she was seen. Let’s give credit and rightful attention where it is due. Promote positivity.
