Our brothers and sisters in the island nation of Haiti were devastated by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday afternoon. The situation that was left behind is critical.
Our friend Jimmy Jean-Louis, who is known all over the world as The Haitian on the NBC show Heroes is making a call for action. He released an official statement via his website, Hollywood Unites for Haiti.
After the catastrophic earthquake today, Haiti is in dire need of any help.
With still next to no news of the outcome of this 7.0 magnitude earthquake, Hollywood Unites for Haiti pleads for any information that may be helpful to ascertain the immediate impact that this disaster has had on Haiti and its neighboring countries.
Basic necessities will be required: water, blankets, medication, temporary shelter and much more. Any kind of donations to relief and humanitarian charities would be greatly appreciated as Haiti really needs your help!
There is a phone number that has been set up for Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti: 1-888-407-4747
For those lucky enough to survive the quake, have been left with no food, water or shelter. MSNBC is reporting that a hospital in Jimmy’s birth town of Petitionville was wrecked. People can’t even go to a hospital right now to receive help.
“You have thousands of people sitting in the streets with nowhere to go,” said Rachmani Domersant, an operations manager with the Food for the Poor charity. “I think hundreds of casualties would be a serious understatement.”
You can also make donations to the International Response Fund at 1-800-REDCROSS or online at www.redcross.org
You can also find other ways to help here.
And finally I ask you all send positive energy and remember our brothers and sisters in Haiti during your prayers.
