People from around the world are doing all they can for the suffering people from Haiti who suffered a catastrophic 7.0 earthquake on Tuesday. Celebrity donations has been flowing in with some being extremely generous.
Power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated one million dollars to the cause. New parents Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen are pitching in 1.5 million dollars to the Red Cross and Madonna throwing in $250,000 and urges other to follow suit.
Charmed star Alyssa Milano donated $50,000 to UNICEF’s Haitian relief fund and challenged corporations to do the same. Actor and director Tyler Perry gave $250,000 and set up the Tyler Perry foundation for donations here.
There are even rumors that troubled golfer Tiger Woods is chipping in three million dollars! A rep for Tiger’s foundation claims to know nothing about this donation. The news was reported earlier today by Russell Simmons but has yet to be confirmed.
A hard working George Clooney rallied up Hollywood heavy hitters to put together a telethon to help raise even more funds. MTV is making this dream come true.
“In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, MTV Networks is presenting “Hope for Haiti,” a global telethon to air commercial-free across ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT and 7:00 p.m. CT. “Hope for Haiti” will also be made available to MTV Networks International, CNN International and National Geographic channels worldwide,” the release reads.
“Leading the charge for “Hope for Haiti” will be George Clooney in Los Angeles, Wyclef Jean in New York City and CNN’s Anderson Cooper from Haiti,” MTV continues. “The two-hour telethon will be broadcast from New York City and Los Angeles, and will feature musical performances and celebrity appearances to be announced prior to the event, as well as live news reports from CNN. “Hope for Haiti” will be produced by Joel Gallen, Tenth Planet Productions, in collaboration with MTV Networks and George Clooney.”
Good ol’ George!
“Haiti’s son” Wyclef has already raised two milion dollars via his charity Yele from mobile giving, according to Albe Angel, CEO of Miami-based Give on the Go, the mobile-communications company working with the non-profit to coordinate donations.
He was on the scene hours after the tragedy hit alongside CNN silver fox Anderson Cooper.
I urge my readers to make a donation, no matter the amount. I realize we are all currently in a recession and many of us have lost our jobs, but our brothers and sisters in Haiti need us right now.
