I am still recovering from last nights fantastic Jazz at the Gardens event held at Sun Life Stadium. Mind you, in a couple of hours I am getting dressed and braving the traffic again to enjoy the sounds of new artist Melanie Fiona, saxophonist David Sanborn, Philadelphia R&B group Boys II Men, and the evenings most anticipated artist John Legend.
Other performers at yesterdays event included John Saxx, K’Jon, Joe Sample, and Grammy Award nominated Teena Marie.
One of the highlights of last nights show was the Universoul Circus. It was a fantastic combination of magic, music, and hilarity. And imagine, we only got a small preview of their show. If you are in South Florida, they will be performing at SunLife Stadium next week. I urge you to bring your whole family out for a fun night under the big top.
Even if you are not in South Florida, check out their website and see when the Universoul Circus is coming to your town.
I met one of the lead guys in the media tent and no matter how many ways I quizzed him on how they managed to turn Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson into a breathtaking white tiger, I kept getting the same answer. It’s not a trick, its MAGIC!
Do you believe in Magic?
Speaking of Magic, Robin Thicke was looking so fine in a dark blue suit last night. Would you believe even sexier than you imagined?
When I saw him walk into the press tent I thought I was gonna pass out. Luckily as he left, I was one of two lucky people who snuck in quickly for a picture! Yes he did have his arm around me and yes I still can’t believe it!
His performance was stellar! He opened up the show with his hit Magic, then he performed Shakin it for Daddy off his new album Sex Therapy. Sadly we didn’t get the surprise appearance from Nicki Minaj we were hoping for! Before I knew it he was singing Lost Without You from his Platinum selling album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke and he was done. He made everyone go crazy with his booty shakin’ antics on stage and when he got on the piano….SWOOOON!
When it comes to the nights headliner Mary J. Blige, what can I say? For the two minutes she spent in the press tent, she was radiant. Many of us were tired since we waited for nearly an hour to see her but once she was there it was like everyone forgot about their tired feet and immediately fell under her spell.
She rocked the stage and delighted the crowd until well after midnight.
I’m looking forward to another delightful day full of great performances today!
