On the heels of record ratings for their second season debuts, two of SHOWTIME’s critically and audience acclaimed original comedy series NURSE JACKIE and the Emmy® winning UNITED STATES OF TARA, have both been renewed for a third season. Both half-hour comedy series have received 12 episode orders and will go into production later in the year.
With all the reality and talent shows that are ruling television these days, its so great to have shows like Nurse Jackie and United States of Tara to satiate my thirst for real television.
I know there are a million and eight medical dramas but the writing on Nurse Jackie is just so fantastic. The web of lies, that is Jackie’s life, drags you in and just doesn’t let go. This should definitely be a one hour show.
United States of Tara is another beautifully written show that allows you into the life of a wife/mother/daughter/sister, played by Toni Collette, who happens to have Dissociative identity disorder. (Formerly known as multiple personality disorder) You get to follow her and her family on all their “adventures.”
In the first episode of the second season you realize that her male alter Buck is about to embark on a relationship with a woman bartender played by the sweet Joey Lauren Adams. (Big Daddy, The Break Up)
Both have great eye candy too! Twilight Saga star Peter Facinelli plays Dr. Cooper and Dominic Fumusa plays Kevin Peyton on the Medical drama, while former Sex and the City star John Corbett plays Max Gregor, the understanding husband on US of Tara.
The announcement was made today by Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc.
“SHOWTIME is enormously proud of these two series starring two of the best actresses working today,” said Greenblatt. “Both are iconic shows for our brand and our thanks to the dedicated producers, cast, and crews who work so hard to make them so great. Edie Falco’s portrayal of the fierce ‘Jackie’ is another extraordinary example of her range and brilliance, and recent Emmy® and Golden Globe® wins for Toni Collette in her tour de force role as a woman with multiple personalities put her in a class by herself. Strong women will continue to rule on this network for a long time to come.”
Nurse Jackie and United States of Tara can be seen on Showtime on Monday nights.
