Emmy nominated actress Claire Danes (nominated for her lead role in the HBO mini series Temple Grandin) spent yesterday morning painting and repainting the Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal in New York. She was there to help Valspar Paint launch their new Hi-DEF Advanced Color System paints and to support the non-profit artist advocacy group United States Artists.
The event was an interactive exhibition titled “Life in Hi-DEF Color,” by artist Stephen Burks which showcased a series of portraits by Burks’ studio, Readymade Projects, of everyday New Yorkers against backdrops of the rich and vibrant colors of Valspar’s new Hi-DEF Advance Color System Paint. Claire led a group of performance painters around to the 26 freestanding walls which they painted with the new paints; every two hours they’d repaint with new colors to show how quickly the Valspar product dries and how vivid the colors are.
Claire had the following to say about the charity and the free public event:
“United States Artists (U.S.A.) is a fantastic artist-advocacy organization. I’m pleased to be working with Valspar and U.S.A. to bring Stephen Burks’ beautiful installation to Grand Central. I appreciate how color can transform a space and I’m excited to use Valspar’s new, richly colorful Hi-DEF Advanced Color System paints.”
Claire looked absolutely radiant at the event. I remember her as the cute teen Angela on MTV’s My So Called Life and as the pretty Juliet in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, but she is looking better than ever now days.
