It looks as though we will get to see a bit of Natalie Portman’s dark side! The trailer for psychological, dance thriller Black Swan has arrived, and in it we get a pretty big dose of creepy!
Nina (Portman) has to cope with constant pressure from all sides. There’s her overbearing mother (played by Barbara Hershey), who is the quintessential stage mom. The dynamic of their relationship is where I feel most of the creepiness is centered. In the midst of the mother-daughter issues, Nina is also doing all she can to prove to the artistic director of Swan Lake she deserves the lead role.
Even though the artistic director seems to feel that she’s perfect to play the lead part, which is that of the White Swan, the twist is that the lead role also requires portrayal of the Black Swan…a much more dark, macabre character.
It seems that the movie will enter several dark twists and turns with the appearance of a dancer named Lilly (Mila Kunis – That 70′s Show) who the artistic director seems to feel is more suited for the role of the Black Swan. Lilly will need to prove that she can channel enough dark energy to play both roles, and I am anxious to see how Natalie Portman pulls this off.
The trailer has some disturbing, thrilling scenes, which gives me more than enough desire to see how it all plays out. Black Swan’s release date is December 1, 2001.
