Before returning to the United States for another term at Brown University, Emma Watson is enjoying time with family and friends in England. Posing in a casual floral ensemble outside of Bungalow 8 in London’s West End neighborhood, she looked shy yet confident in her pretty pixie haircut on Wednesday, August 26th, 2010.
Before allowing a professional to snip away her locks in July, Emma modeled for the eco-friendly clothing brand People Tree for their Autumn Winter 2010-11 collection. The folks over at People Tree create ethically produced fashion by working closely with 50 Fair Trade groups in 15 countries.
The U.K. boutique bring benefits to people and the planet at as many steps of the production process as possible – growing cotton, weaving, dyeing, embroidery, stitching etc. – helping alleviate poverty in the world’s most marginalised communities.
I still find it hard to convey what Fair Trade means to those producing our fashion – it’s just so impressive to see how the women have used Fair Trade clothing to escape poverty and empower themselves and their children. I was very moved and inspired, Emma said in a statement on their website.
Check out the video below showing Emma’s trip to Bangladesh where she visited the slum homes of garment factory workers and experienced how People Tree clothing is made. You can also view her collection at their website here.
It’s such a treat to see such a bright young starlet trying to improve the world, one thread at a time!
