The premiere of the highly anticipated Nikita is only one day away. The new show is filled with action, revenge, and lots of eye-candy! Gorgeous actress Tiffany Hines stars as one of the main characters, Jaden, and in real life is one of the sweetest, most down to earth actresses out there.
Best known as Birdie on the show ‘Beyond the Break’, she has also recently had roles on ‘Bones’, ’10 things I Hate About You’, and ‘Lie to Me’. In Nikita, her butt-kicking character, Jaden, is a real departure from previous, good girl roles she is used to playing.
We had the chance to talk to Tiffany about the action packed first season of Nikita and we hope it satiates your thirst for information! I did my best to get as much info as possible, we know you are dying for more details!
Karen: Describe your role on the show.
Tiffany: In Nikita, I play Jaden. Jaden is a new recruit at Division, which is a new recruit government agency that takes kids that are in trouble with the law, who don’t have very many friends or family, and they fake their deaths. They then give them a second chance at life by either offering them a choice between being assassins for the government, or choosing death.
So we all, in order to stay alive, decide to agree to be assassins for the government.

Karen: Tell me a little bit more about your character, Jaden.
Tiffany: Jaden, she’s pretty hard! She’s pretty bad ass! She grew up on the streets and is the kind of girl who will snap your neck first, and ask questions later. It’s kind of exciting for me because I’ve never really played the antagonist before. I’ve always placed the nice girl, or the girl next door, so as an artist, its exciting to play something new and different.
Karen: What can we expect to see from your character this season?
Tiffany:We are just about 6 episodes in right now, so I i haven’t even seen some of the scripts and where they’re really going, but at first, you may see Jaden as the bitch and the person who causes problems. As the show progresses though, I think you really see there’s another side to her.
I don’t think that its good to play a character who’s supposed to be bad and is bad. No one ever says in life “oh, I’m a bad person”. There are things that happen to them in life that cause them to act the way they act and I just think that Jaden is misunderstood. Shes been through a lot of things that people don’t know and that’s why she is the way that she is.
She’s not just a badass, she’s also got this vulnurable side and the way that she protects herself is by acting like a hardass but really there’s things we don’t know about her. Like, for example, that she is in love with Thom, who is played by Ashton Holmes. I love playing dynamic characters like that.

Karen: What type of training did you go through?
Tiffany: As far as training goes, we worked with a stunt coordinator and a fight coordinator. My character has a lot of fights, especially in the second and third episodes, Jaden bristles with Alex. So my character and Lyndsy Fonseca’s character do not get along. We have a lot of catfights and hand in hand combat that we do so we have to work with the stunt and fight coordinators together.
I also have a training routine everyday, just to be in shape, since its an action show and you want to be in shape as much as you possibly can so everything looks natural. You know, you’re doing how many takes? You need to stay in shape so you don’t get exhausted. So I do a workout routine everyday and other than that I work with a stunt coordinator.

Karen: What is your characters relationship with Nikita?
Tiffany: As of right now, that’s kind of open ended. All I can say is that Jaden and Alex do not like each other and that is mainly the focus for Jaden at this point.
Karen:Can you give away any secrets or teasers about the show?
Tiffany: Constantly, the show has twists and turns. I can’t really say much right now because it would just give too much away so you just have to tune in and watch.
The writers we have are so blessed. My favorite shows are the ones that have me constantly guessing, and I don’t know whats going to happen. Where I think I have it figured out, then something happens, and I realize I really don’t. We are just so blessed to have those kind of writers on the show. They constantly keep you guessing and enthralled. Its fun for me to read and hopefully it will be fun for you to watch.

Karen: When people join Division, all of their memory is wiped away, much like the Bourne stories. If you were offered this deal in real life would you take it?
Tiffany: The thing is, no one joins Division. These kids are criminals who have a record and go to prison. We pass out one day and when we wake up, we’re in division. So they tell you that there has been a funeral and that you have the choice to live and be an assassin for Division, or be killed.
Karen: What is different about this version of Nikita?
TIffany: Were basing it mostly on the original film, and we take little bits and pieces inspired by the franchise, which are the other shows and movies. We’re saying that Nikita has escaped from Division, she fell in love with someone, and they killed the one that she loves. So shes going to take revenge by taking down division. She wants it to end, she doesn’t want any of this to continue.
The agency is corrupt and it needs to be stopped. With the new recruits coming in, the young recruits, Jaden, played by myself, Ashton Holmes character Tom, and Linsday Von Saken’s character Alex, we get this new generation coming into Division that nobody has ever really focused on before. It’s just a whole different take on the franchise itself, so its brand new.

Karen: Most people don’t know this but you’re a singer as well. Would you ever give up acting for singing?
Tiffany: I don’t think you ever have to give up one thing for another. I have focused on my acting for the time being, but at some point, I want to get back into singing.
Its actually not about wanting to get back to it, I am going to get back to it. I’m a dancer, I sing, and I act, and all three of those things, I think, are forms that I love equally. I remember when I came to Los Angeles and the people I started working with asked me to pick which one I wanted to focus on, I said I want to go for them all, and they said, “well no, you have to pick one” and I said, “really? I am pretty sure Will Smith did them all”.
I guess, sometimes you break in with one, and then once you are in, then you can go other routes. So I think for me, the acting just took off. Thats the way God pulled me, but I don’t think he would have put that love in my heart for all three if they weren’t all supposed to play a role in my life.

A very big thank you to Tiffany for taking the time out of her busy production schedule to talk to us.
I know you are all as excited as we are for the show, so make sure to tune in and catch Tiffany, Maggie Q, Melinda Clarke, Shane West, Ashton Holmes, and Lyndsy Fonseca in the new Nikita which premieres tomorrow at 9pm on the CW.
