As the end credits were rolling for Scream 3 ten years ago, I remember thinking to myself “This would really be a nice way for the franchise to end”. But when a horror series manages to be as successful overall as the Scream trilogy has been, you never really want to see it end if at all possible! That’s why there’s so much anticipation for the latest installment of the franchise: Scream 4!
The exclusive photo that was just released features Courteney Cox, reprising her role as Gale Weathers, surrounded by bales of hay inside of what appears to be a barn. And who is looming in the background? It’s none other than the infamous Ghostface killer! (By the way, is that a Ghostface mask that she’s holding in her left arm??)
It’s a pretty creepy image, and I just love it when horror movies pay homage to their predecessors. Anyone remember the barn scene from Halloween 5 21 years ago which featured two young adults who were under the impression that they were all alone in the hay? That scene ended with the thrust of a pitchfork! Let’s hope there’s more to this hay scene!
Scream 4 picks up ten years after Scream 3 with Gale no longer working as a reporter. She is finally married to her on again/off again lover, Sheriff Dewey Riley (Courteney’s real-life husband David Arquette). Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has become a writer, and feels a sense of renewal as she returns to the picture. And, as we know, where there’s Sydney, there’s the Ghostface killer not too far behind!
Scream 4 will be released in theaters on April 15, 2011.
