Moving on to the second leg of the Dempsey Challenge, Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey took to the streets of Central Maine with some pretty famous faces. Kicking off the fifty mile ride alongside Dempsey were Olympic medalist Levi Leipheimer, Tour De France competitor Chris Horner, and six-time Tour de France veteran Kevin Livingston in Lewiston, Maine on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010.
The Dempsey Challenge presented by Amgen is a non-competitive fundraising event benefiting The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center. The Dempsey Center provides support, education and wellness services to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.
The Center was started by the actor after his mother Amanda was diagnosed and treated for Ovarian Cancer three times. Luckily she is now enjoying a healthy and active lifestyle.
He helped his mom through this difficult situation and he wanted to make sure others had the same access to good, reliable resources to help the patient, family members and caretakers.
