Sarah Jessica Parker puts life back into Sex and the City

Why am I not surprised that Mr. Big was wrong? Sarah Jessica Parker squashed rumors that the “Sex and the City” movies were all but done.

Last night, the mommy-of-three spoke to New Yok Mag at New York City Ballet’s fall gala about the alleged demise of the popular series which debuted on HBO in 1998. The rumors began in mid-September after Chris Noth told reporters:

“It’s over. The franchise is dead. The press killed it. Your magazine f**king killed it. New York Magazine. It’s like all the critics got together and said, ‘This franchise must die.’

“They all had the exact same review. It’s like they didn’t see the movie.”

SJP says, Not so fast!

“I don’t know the future; I would say that you never know what will happen with that particular franchise. It’s less about the reviewers than it is about the audience, and they’ve been pretty true, so we tend to listen to them more than anybody else,” Parker told Vulture.

Also, it’s not Noth who gets final say, but it might be SATC’s director, writer, and executive producer, Michael Patrick King: “If Michael Patrick didn’t put those words into those characters’s mouths, I don’t think people would respond for so many years,” Parker said. “So we’ll see. Who knows.”

I have gone on record and said that the second film was not my favorite. The writers strayed from the original formula but it was still a fun ride. Would I have preferred a more cliqued version that would have left Carrie with a baby bump?

Absolutely not.

But I thoroughly loved the first film and was hoping for more of that without the Carrie/Big drama. Please let this stand as an open invitation to the writers of any future films and of course Mr. Michael Patrick King for a bit of fan insight.

After a night of fabulousness (and rumor squashing), SJP returned to her parenting duties and walked little James Wilkie to school on Thursday, October 8th, 2010. That boy has just sprouted overnight and looks exactly like daddy Matthew Broderick.
