PREVIEW: The Big C – Episode 1.10

We’ve got some goodies from Showtime in the form of previews of next week’s episode of The Big C! Entitled “Divine Intervention”, the new episode is giving us a peek at Cathy’s (Laura Linney) emotional and spiritual issues.

The first video features the return of Cathy’s hilarious friend Rebecca (played wonderfully by Cynthia Nixon) who is going toe-to-toe with Cathy about the state of their friendship, or the lack thereof. As a reminder, one of the last few scenes of Episode 8 ‘Happy Birthday Cancer’ a few weeks ago featured Rebecca and Cathy’s brother Sean (John Benjamin Hickey) getting it on (on top of Cathy’s washing machine, nonetheless) in Cathy’s basement, much to Cathy’s utter dismay and disgust.

And we get a complete 180 in the second video, which puts us in the middle of a competitive game of Scrabble between Cathy and her neighbor Marlene (Phyllis Somerville). It’s a very real scene which starts off cute and funny, but still hits home for anyone who’s ever loved someone faced with their own mortality, or actually encountered this themselves. I mean, a show about death has to confront issues of spirituality and prayer, right? Personally, I’m just praying for another naked Lenny (Idris Elba) scene, but that’s not what we’re discussing right now.
