I think it’s fair to say that if you aren’t privy to the fact that a new video debuted recently featuring the spawn of Will and Jada-Pinkett Smith, then you probably haven’t heard of Justin Bieber, either. Seriously, since the release of this video, 9 year old Willow Smith is enjoying Bieber-esque type stardom! I wrote an article last month about the release of 9 year old Willow’s new song “Whip My Hair”.
I knew the song was a hit the moment I heard it; but I could not have anticipated the colorful masterpiece that is the accompanying video!
It features Willow and her boombox entering a futuristic looking classroom with a desire to get the place jumping. She turns on the music while simultaneously allowing one of her braids to dip into a jar of paint. Then the fun starts!! She chants “I whip my hair back and forth” in a melodic, catchy chorus while the act of whipping her hair around splashes paint on a set of canvassed walls that she dances between!
The star of this video is, of course, the HAIR. So, let’s stop and pay homage to the hair for a moment. Remember the article I wrote last month on Jada and Willow’s fabulous hair stylist Marcia Hamilton? Well she is the genius behind Willow’s locks in the “Whip My Hair” video.
To create the “Heart Hawk” structure in the beginning of the video (see pic), Marcia wrapped the braids around a pre-made wire shaped heart and secured with lots of glue. To finish, she sprayed this funky one of a kind design with IT&LY HAIRFASHION’S Purity Design Pure Definition Hairspray. How funky is that heart hair?? Wow!
And how much do we love Willow’s cute, signature faux-hawk? Well, for this variation, Marcia hand-colored clip in hair extensions with bright colors using IT&LY’s Colorly Xtreme Colors. This is a quick and easy way to add rock star flair to any hairstyle without it being permanent.
Finally, we have the “Cotton Candy Dream” hand colored lightly with pinks and greens. To hold these poofs in place, Marcia added hues of pastel colors using IT&LY HAIRFASHIONS Colorly Xtreme and Colorly Hair Color to the pieces, then holding the shapes in place with White Sand’s Stuck Up Mega Hold Hairspray.

I actually love it, love what she is getting across with the lyrics, love the dancing, love that she is not a lily white Disney princess… however I don’t for a minute think that what we actually hear bears much resemblance to her actual singing voice. These days, they find the star, then make the singer, lol. She appears to be the best one they have come up with yet though.
