Two of the biggest boy bands in the world are combining their synchronized dance moves and heavenly medleys to create the perfect storm of teen pop. Children of the 80s AND 90s rejoice because the New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys are hitting the road together in 2011.
Yes you read that correctly and this is not the 3rd layer of some Inception inspired dream where Leo DiCaprio has come to steal your love of boy bands. Donnie Wahlberg, Joe McIntyre, Danny Wood, Jon and Jordan Knight are teaming up with Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Nick Carter to wiggle and shimmy their way into your hearts one more time.
Show me the meaning of being excited!
“I think this is definitely a special collaboration and timing is everything in show business,” Joey McIntyre of NKOTB told Entertainment Tonight. Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough added, “We’ve always said they’ve inspired us to be the group that we are.”
Fans got a hint of the magic to come during a NKOTB concert in New York last year when the Backstreet Boys showed up to sing “I Want it That Way” sending girls (and some boys) into a pop frenzy of near epic proportions. Check out video of this magical moment below:
They’ve got it goin on, right? I have no shame in admitting that I love me some BSB and some NKOTB, word. If they can get Debbie “Deborah if you’re NASTY” Gibson to open up then I might spontaneously combust. She did do a duet with Jordan Knight back in 2006 that is begging to be performed live dont ya think? And maybe we’ll get lucky and Kevin Richardson, who left the Backstreet Boys in 2006, will return for a reunion. Let’s not forget that Lady Gaga is featured on “Big Girl Now” from the New Kid’s latest cd, so it makes sense that she would show up as well. See, this has the makings of a legendary tour!
This reminds me of the time I ran into Brian Littrell and his lovely wife Leighann in Marietta, Georgia a few winters ago and made a big fool of myself. But that is a story for another day.
The tour, which hasn’t been officially named so for now we will call it The OMGBSB&NKOTBWTF Tour, kicks off in summer 2011 and will no doubt be coming to a city near you. The boys, all nine of them, will also be performing together at the American Music Awards on ABC on November 21st.
