It looks like all her waiting has finally paid off! After nine years together, Prince William proposed to his girlfriend Kate Middleton during a vacation in Kenya in October. Being second in line to the thrown, you KNOW he had to make it an extra special moment.
Representatives for his father Prince Charles confirm the oval blue 18-carat sapphire surrounded by 14 smaller white diamonds was the very ring he gave to Princess Diana when he proposed to her.
“It is very special to me,” William told press at St. James’ Palace Tuesday. “It was my way to make sure my mother did not miss out on today and the excitement that we are going to spend the rest of our lives together.”
He added of the engagement: “The timing is right now, we are both very, very happy.”
The happy couple will marry in either the Spring or Summer of 2011 after which they will move to North Wales where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force.
