“Lost” Alumn Jorge Garcia to Star in New JJ Abrams Pilot for Fox

Nostalgic about Lost? Dreaming of mystery islands? We got great news for you! Not only we have another island show for you guys to obsess about, but also it’s penned by JJ Abrams (creator of Lost) AND it stars our favorite Lost lotto winner! Yes I’m looking at you, Hurley! Well, it won’t be Hurley, it will be another character, but actor Jorge Garcia has been cast to play one of the leads on the Fox pilot “Alcatraz”, according to Deadline.com. Shooting is slated to begin in January in San Francisco and Vancouver. Anyone real curious to find out everything about this ASAP? I know I am.

So… we got an island again, we got big mysteries and of course one of the most renowned prisons of all times. And it really wouldn’t be JJ Abrams’s best effort if the CIA or the FBI or spies or agents of some kind weren’t involved! (Yes I am one of those absolute Alias fans and I still think that’s the best JJ project to date, and one of the finest shows ever to appear on TV. And needless to say, don’t even try to mess with my undying love for Michael Vartan).

The show reportedly starts developing from the disappearance of a group of Alcatraz people (prisoners and guards) who have been missing for 30 years and reappear in the present day. Methinks this whole “are we in the past or in the future? Or living the present?” concept is kind of familiar to Lost (and Alias) viewers. And of course, the protagonists are a group of FBI agents who try to track these people down and who are on a quest for truth, trying to solve the mystery tied to the disappearance of these Alcatraz prisoners and guards 30 years before.

All I can say is this sounds way better than most of the new pilots this season has offered. I said most, not all. Hawaii Five-0 is beyond awesome (best new bromance on TV, Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan. Plus Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park. WIN!). Anyway, “Alcatraz” better be as good on screen as it sounds on paper. Given this season’s experiences (I’m looking at you “Lonestar”, not to mention all the potentially good but cancelled shows like “Undercovers”) I won’t say anything until I see two episodes at the very least. But so far, so good. Because JJ, FBI, Garcia, plus mystery to solve? I’m in. Are you excited to see Garcia back on screen? Ready for yet another big mystery to take over your TV screen? Stay tuned for more news!
