It has been a world wind year for Russell Brand. He’s gone from shooting movies, to getting married and now he is gearing up for the release of his latest film. He posed on the red carpet with his new bride Katy Perry at the Los Angeles premiere of “The Tempest” held at the El Capitan Theatre on Monday, December 6th, 2010 in Hollywood, California.
His co-stars Dame Helen Mirren, Chris Cooper, Djimon Hounsou, and Alan Cumming posed for photographers before heading in for the screening.
In Julie Taymor’s version of ‘The Tempest,’ the main character is now a woman named Prospera (Mirren). Going back to the 16th or 17th century, women practicing the magical arts of alchemy were often convicted of witchcraft. In Taymor’s version, Prospera is usurped by her brother and sent off with her four-year daughter on a ship.
She ends up on an island; it’s a tabula rasa: no society, so the mother figure becomes a father figure to Miranda. This leads to the power struggle and balance between Caliban (Hounsou) and Prospera; a struggle not about brawn, but about intellect.
Brand was also seen having a bit of a laugh with Glee star Chris Colpher!
