Big news for Desperate Housewives fans! Larry Hagman has signed on to appear on the ABC hit later this season. He won’t be appearing as his most famous character JR Ewing though. Sad I know. How great would that be!? Instead he will play the love interest of Lynette’s mother Stella (Polly Bergen).
“I just decided and am going to shoot next week,” Hagman stated.
Having been a huge fan of both Dallas and Knots Landing I am really excited about this. I’ve always felt that Desperate Housewives was the modern incarnation of Knots and now to see Larry on Wisteria Lane takes me right back to those early episodes when JR and Bobby Ewing showed up on Seaview Circle to drop off their brother Gary and his new wife Valene.
Hagman also confirmed that talks are ongoing for a modern-day Dallas reboot on TNT. Linda Gray, who played JR’s drunk wife Sue Ellen and Patrick Duffy who played his brother Bobby are rumored to be on board as well. The early scripts indicate that the new version will focus on the next generation of Ewing kids. I know I have my bottle of scotch and shoulder pads ready for that one. How about you? Sue Ellen is actually the subject of one of my all time favorite movie quotes from the 2000 comedy The Broken Hearts Club.
It’s like one big gay soap opera! I keep waiting for Sue Ellen to wander into my living room and tell me that she’s secretly bought controlling interest in my oil company!
