Dexter Season Finale: You KNOW you loved it!

This season, the writers and executive producers of Dexter took us on an amazing ride, albeit a different one than usual. But what did you expect after such an epic reveal during the season four finale?

I am going to assume that if you are reading this you have either A. already watched the finale or B. have not watched but you can’t wait to find out what went down. If you do not fall into either of those two categories I suggest you close out of this post and check out the rest of our fabulous stuff.

For those who stay, let’s talk about the season five finale! If you go back and check out our post with predictions for tonights episode you will notice that we were nearly spot on across the board.

Miami Metro discovers that Stan Liddy is now deceased after receiving a tip. No sooner do they hear the news do the detectives load onto a boat to investigate the scene of the crime. Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) tries to comfort Quinn (Desmond Harrington) while a clever LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) simultaneously spots a bit of blood on his shoe. Joey realizes that Dexter (Michael C Hall) must be behind the murder but before he opens his big mouth he decides to ask for an attorney.

LaGuerta relieves him of his duties on the crime scene leaving Deb and the team utterly confused. Could Detective Quinn be behind this bloody murder? For now he is pleading the fifth.

Next we find the loony Jordan Chase (Johnny Lee Miller) chatting with Dexter on the phone while trying to get through traffic with a panicked Lumen (Julia Stiles) in the trunk. Being that we are supposed to think they are shooting in Miami, a fruit vendor approaches the car only to realizes the super famous Jordan Chase behind the wheel and what he can tell is the sound of desperation coming from inside the car.

Jordan gets his wish for a green light but the vendor calls in the suspicious activity. In the meantime, Dexter gets the information needed to track Jordan Chase but will it be too late?

Dexter arrives on the scene only to be surprised by Eugene Greer aka Jordan after a crash and burn who then takes him into custody. Just as he gets all cocky and thinks he has our boy Dexter by the balls, he is surprised that Dexter has a weapon that he kept and sets himself free with.

Dexter pounces like a lion and now its Jordan who is strapped to a table…helpless. Instead of pleading for his life, Jordan tries to continue the mind fuck but Lumen is not having it. She loses herself in the moment, forgets ritual and introduces her shiny best friend into the chest of the heartless Chase.

Just as you think the worst is over, Deb arrives. She is now only a few steps away from a crime scene. She sees the dead body before her and a thin plastic sheet is the only thing keeping her from finding out the truth. Just one command from her could change her life but instead she chooses the side of the victim and gives them a “get out of jail free” card.

The way Deb reacts, and the words that come out of her mouth at that moment are a huge precursor to what will happen one day when she finds out the truth about her brother. Even though she bleeds blue, she is willing to look beyond the bad in certain situations.

As expected, after all is said and done Lumen waves goodbye to her dark passenger and Dexter in the process. This relationship was doomed from the start but at least our boy Dexter knew what it was like to feel fully exposed and accepted for once in his life.

The episode ends with little Harrison’s birthday party by the beach. All their loved ones are present including a newly reconciled Laguerta and Batista and Quinn, a free man.

Dexter loves his sister and even though he doesn’t like Quinn he knows he makes her happy. Not to mention Joey is the only one that could potentially throw Dexter under the bus and link him to Liddy’s murder. Luckily Quinn is happy with the end result and extends the olive branch to Dexter and says, ” I owe you one.”

Everyone hails Detective Morgan a hero for solving the Barrel Girls case and little Harrison blows out his first candle with the assistance of his adoring father Dexter.

I predict next season will return to formula and we will inch slightly closer to Deb finding out the truth about her brother!

Were you happy with the season finale? Are you dying for season six to start already? I know I am!!

I loved the finale, and thanks for writing about it so soon! Is it not possible that maybe Deb did suspect that it was Dexter and Lumen behind the curtain? What was up with her saying to Dexter – “you must be glad this is all over”? What do you think she meant by that?

    • Rosy says:

You are so welcome Tami! You know what, like you, I half suspect she knows it was Dexter behind the curtain as well. Not only that, but I feel she has suspected him before as well.

But of course, its one thing to guess and a whole other thing to CONFIRM.

So even if she wanted to know, I doubt Deb would have looked behind the curtain.

  2. Tami says:

I agree – by not looking behind the curtain, she doesn’t have to face the truth – not yet, anyway. I think I’ll have to rewatch the finale tomorrow and pay close attention to the conversation she had with Dexter while he was taking Quinn’s shoe out of the bag to test it. She was being kind of vague, talking about how you think you know someone and then they do something…she could have been talking about herself, Quinn, Liddy – or Dexter. She was pretty squirmy and didn’t really look him in the eye, if I recall. And I really can’t imagine what else she would have been talking about with the “glad it’s over” comment. Harrison’s birthday? The Quinn evidence? Surely, she could have put two and two together with Lumen’s appearing one day out of nowhere and then conveniently disappearing once Jordan was dead.
In any case, they left us with a lot of good stuff to mull over before next year. I thought the season was the best one yet. The cast is brilliant. Twelve hours of Dexter a year is just not enough! :)

I’m with you all the way. Let’s start a Facebook campaign for year long Dexter!! I’m going to rewatch again tomorrow.

Let’s meet again here after we have watched it a few more times. You know one more time won’t be enough!!
