Dexter, The Big C, Covert Affairs score Golden Globe nominations!

Today feels like Christmas for me for more than one reason. First, my new Droid phone is due to arrive and second, the Golden Globe nominations are out and so many of my favorites have made the list!

As expected, our boy Michael C Hall has earned a nomination for his role as serial killer Dexter Morgan on the Showtime hit “Dexter.” His co-star Julia Stiles earned a nomination in the “Best Supporting Actress” category and the show itself is up for “Best Television Series (Drama).

As much as we loved Julia in the role of victim-turned-vigilante Lumen this season, we feel like Jennifer Carpenter’s performance stood above the rest and should have also received a nomination.

Piper Perabo earned a nomination in the Best Actress in a Television Series (Drama) for the freshman USA drama Covert Affairs. This is one of the stand out new shows of the year and even though it did not receive a nomination for Best Drama Series we know it’s only a matter of time before it happens. Same goes for her co-star Chris Gorham whose portrayal of her blind sidekick Auggie was not nominated this time around but we are certain to see his name pop up during future award seasons.

The folks at Showtime must be quite busy tallying up all their nominations this morning. Their freshman dramedy “The Big C” earned nominations for “Best Comedy Series” and “Best Actress in a Comedy Series” for Laura Linney. We would LOVE to see this brilliant tv show land at least one Golden Globe but essentially both would be great.

Nurse Jackie and The United States of Tara also racked up nominations as did the HBO show “Boardwalk Empire.” The BBC America miniseries Luther received a nomination for Idris Elba’s brilliant performance. I can’t wait to see the second part begin shooting, I hope Luther ends up killing that psychopath partner of his.

Didn’t I tell you most of my favorites are up for awards?!!

As far as movies are concerned, mostly all the movies expected are on the list. “Black Swan,” “The Kings Speech” and “The Social Network” scored major nominations.

Here is the full list of nominations, let me know if your favorites made it! The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards show will air live on Sunday, January 16th, 2011 on NBC 8:00-11:00 p.m. EST and it will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.
