Don’t expect Queen Latifah to make a New Year’s resolution

It’s inevitable to be only hours away from a whole new year without everyone discussing what changes they want to make for the future. Well everyone except Queen Latifah! Fifteen years ago, she decided that resolutions only set you up to stumble, so she came up with a new plan: She identifies “pre-resolutions” to achieve by her birthday on March 18th.

Queen Latifah’s a busy gal, with a booming movie career, endorsement deals (including Covergirl Spokesperson), hosting duties (People’s Choice Awards on January 5th!) and much more, but what will the future hold for this hard-working A-lister?

Check out some excerpts from her interviews:

IN TEN YEARS?
Latifah, who splits her time between New Jersey, Miami and Los Angeles, says that in 10 years, she hopes to be “on cruise control, with a couple of kids under my belt.” Is she moving in that direction? “It’s in the Lord’s hands,” she says.

LOVE THE STATE YOU’RE FROM
“There’s something about growing up in New Jersey that prepares you for whatever you might encounter around the world. We’re not afraid to go places. I met Mike ‘The Situation’ [from Jersey Shore] because we were both on Jay Leno. He lives maybe 15 minutes from me. He was like, ‘If you ever get a flat tire, call me and I’ll hook you up.’ I love Jersey.”

IT’S NOT EASY BEING QUEEN
Latifah has some advice for Kate Middleton, as one queen to a future royal: “Make sure you have a sanctuary, because everybody in the world is going to be in your business. He happened to be born a prince; you happened to go to college and meet him. You’re two kids who fell in love. I just hope you have a happy life. And don’t take anything personally.”

Hmm…”pre-resolutions to achieve by a bday.” I like that! Definitely more manageable and more fail-proof than “I promise not to do this. I promise not to do that.” I love her–she’s so positive and such a breath of fresh air.
