Remember that big screen reboot of Dallas that was in development last year and then fell apart and was reborn as a TV show on TNT? Well there are rumblings that another 80s shoulder pad serial is about to burst forth from the vast Hollywood womb….DYNASTY.
Yes folks, the show that gave us Alexis Colby, Dominique Deveraux (no relation to Blanche) and the Moldavian Massacre is poised to bring us shoulder pads in glorious 70mm technicolor. But there is a twist. Instead of being set in the 1980s the film will pick up with Blake and the other Carringtons in the 1960s. Dynasty creator Richard Shapiro was quoted as saying:
“We’re taking the Dynasty family to places they’ve never been before. It’s fun, because the fans of the show will know from the series where each of the characters end up, eventually, but what they won’t know is how they get there. There will be some very unlikely twists and situations, and people will not be expecting a lot of what we’re planning. We’re going to do a lot of coloring outside the lines…the movie will be the old Dynasty, of course, but with horns.”
Couldn’t you just die? Alexis in Go-go boots? Crystal in a mini dress and braids? Blake looking like Don Draper with a cigarette in one hand and a brandy in the other? I’ll admit to being a bit of hypocrite when it comes to reboots but I fully support this bit of fantasticness. Who would play who though? Looks like I’ll be spending the last days of Snowtacular 2011 working on my dream cast.
The film is still in the script stages and no studio is attached, but hopefully we’ll see this go into production sometime next year. Heck, I’d settle for a TV movie. This makes me long for a DVD release of Dynasty: The Making of a Guilty Pleasure which aired on ABC back in 05? Remember that? I wonder if it will be in 3D.
