Big Night for Glee at the Golden Globes

I don’t enjoy awards shows much, which is not the best attitude when one writes for an entertainment blog. I feel much the same way about these shows as I do about sporting events. Why sit through the agonizing four hour event when you can find out who won the next morning in less than a minute? Yeah I’m weird I know.

Last night was The Golden Globes hosted by Ricky Gervais, who I find to be pretty funny but I hear he pissed a lot of people off. Big surprise there. The usual suspects won the big awards and I didn’t see any real surprises on the list. While I didn’t like Black Swan much I do think Natalie Portman acted her skinny ass off and deserves any awards she gets for it. Plus she ROCKED that Black Swan look and I think she should wear her makeup that way every day. I also just saw The Social Network a few days ago and thought it was pretty amazing, but I am confused about all the “Oscar Buzz” around Mr. Timberlake. He was good…but not OMG OSCAR good. I did develop an unhealthy obsession with one Armie Hammer who played the Winklevoss twins. Hello hotness! Just my opinion. Oh wait this was a Glee post wasn’t it?

My favorite show about high school musical theater won big last night and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve said many times that Chris Colfer is doing amazing work on that show and to see him win an award for it his first time out makes rainbows and unicorns dance in my otherwise dark and cynical heart. You can watch his wonderful acceptance speech at the bottom of this post. Glee also walked away with a Best Supporting Actress statue for Jane Lynch and the award for Best TV Show Comedy/Musical. Congrats guys!

Also worth mentioning before I move on is how amazing Diana Agron and Lea Michele looked in their Golden Globes frocks. I’ve always thought Diana was a beauty but she took it to another level last night. Well played Miss Agron.

In other Glee news Ryan Murphy mentioned that he had a chat with Anne Hathaway back stage about an appearance on the show. Apparently she has been campaigning hard to get this and has already worked out a story line and a list of songs she feels are perfect for her episode. Rumor has it she wants to play Kurt’s gay aunt, which would be AMAZING. I love her too so this just gets better and better. Ryan says her appearance is definitely happening but he wasn’t sure about her storyline yet. I hope they work with her idea. Kurt has also mentioned he’d love Julie Andrews to play his grandmother. Julie…I say do it.

So, congrats kids of McKinley High. Looks like you’ll be riding high when the show returns for the much hyped Super Bowl episode in February. I can’t wait!

  1. [...] GLEE: It’s been an argument on the Internet, at awards shows and even in my house: Is Glee’s second season as good as its first? For some reason, I seem to be the only one it is. Well, now me and the Golden Globes, which honored it for the second year in a row as best comedy/musical TV show. It’s not the side of the argument I thought I’d find myself on, but I’m pretty comfortable hanging out there. Getting the best show wasn’t it, the show also swept the best supporting acting categories. Since everyone on the show seems like a supporting character, it’s a credit not just to winners Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch, but to the entire cast. And don’t worry, there is plenty of time to get back on the Glee bandwagon before the post-Super Bowl episode coming up. [...]
