The hunt for the man who will bring Stephen King‘s tortured gunslinger Roland Deschain to the big screen has been almost as gripping as the search for Scarlett O’Hara was. Or was that all in my head? Regardless…earlier today the news broke that director Ron Howard has made his choice and the tattered hat has been handed to Javier Bardem.
Javier beat out fan favorite Viggo Mortensen and Christian Bale who I’ll admit was a baffling choice. Bale is a fine actor and I have no doubt he would have done a great job…but I have a hard time seeing him as Roland, and apparently so did Ron Howard.
I’ve only seen one of Bardem’s films but I have a good feeling about this casting. He certainly looks the part, and is age appropriate. No word yet on whether Javier has accepted the role but I have little doubt he will. No let’s find Eddie and Susannah. Any thoughts? Angela Bassett are you busy? The first film in the series…The Gunslinger, is due in theaters May 17, 2013.

Looks the part? Have you even read the damn books? He is wrong for this and SO IS OPEY
Of course I’ve read them….all seven…numerous times. Sorry if my mental image of Roland differs from yours.
