The King’s Speech wins big at the Director’s Guild Awards

With every award show slowly leading up to the Academy Awards, it looks like “The King’s Speech” has a major shot at winning Oscar gold. Director Tom Hooper took home top honors at the 63rd Annual Director’s Guild Awards held at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center on Saturday, January 29th, 2011 in Hollywood, California.

“To be in this room with so many filmmakers that I hugely admire is extraordinary,” Hooper said before thanking his cast and crew. “This is really, truly the hugest honor of my life.”

In support of the brilliant director, stars Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter made a special appearance. Carter posed for photographers with her date for the evening, mother Elena.

“The King’s Speech” is in theaters now!
