I left you all Chuck-less last week. I apologize. This week though, I’m back. And what a great episode to come back to! This week, an evil-doer, Boris, is after “the key” that Volkov left to… someone. But who? He manages to kill nearly all of Volkov’s crew in order to find out, save one, an unknown woman named Vivian (Lauren Cohan). Vivian is holding a masquerade at her estate, and Chuck (Zachary Levi) and the gang have to find her and protect her from Boris. And they’re, in Morgan’s (Joshua Gomez) words, the best spies EVER, so they save her. But Boris gets away. It turns out Vivian is not in Volkov’s crew, she is a
Volkov.
Vivian Volkov, estranged daughter of Alexis. Vivian doesn’t seem to know much about her dad, um, business. She was sent of to boarding schools and places far away from her dad. Learning of her dad’s criminal exploits seems to throw her world into a unknown state, giving her and Chuck a chance for a heart to heart. She’s at the point in her life that Chuck was a few years ago. Things fell into place for Chuck, surely they will for Vivian too… It appears that she may think that her dad’s life has “fallen” into place for her.
Morgan was also experiencing a life crisis of his own. Spurred by Casey (Adam Baldwin), Morgan decides to move out of Chara’s apartment (that’s Casey’s term for the Chuck/Sarah relationship). Although Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) tired to have some one-on-one time with Morgan, it only made him realize that he was still like a child, like Chuck and Sarah’s child. When Morgan and Chuck had their break-up talk, it was almost in tears. But, then I remembered… Morgan’s only lived with Chuck for a year or so, right? I mean, before that Morgan was at home and Chuck was living with Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) & Awesome (Devin McPartlin). So, I’m not getting why this is a big thing… Aside from splitting up Chewy & Hans. But, where were Chewy & Hans before the moved in together?
Casey’s crisis came in the form of another offer. He was the best sharp shooter in the US, which saved Sarah’s life tonight, but for the last four years he’s been working on the same team, wasting his talent. As unsentimental as he acts, he loves the team and doesn’t want to leave them. He gives a little though in the end.
The show ends with several doors. Casey facing a long hallway ending with a door to his potential future. Vivian Volkov facing a door to what could be her future, following in dad’s footsteps. A closing nursery door as Ellie and Awesome decide to move the baby in her own room so they can sleep for the first time in months. And the hypothetical door closing on this era of Chorgan (that’s my term for Chuck/Morgan).
Episode Side Notes:
- Morgan and Alex’s Valentine’s Day is a bit disturbing.
- Chuck’s homemade shirt is good, but Sarah’s wings are awesome.
- Unlike Chuck, I was not creeped out by the masquerade masks, I loved them. But, Eyes Wide Shut was creepy.

OK so we have two slightly lower quality (but in my opinion still fun) episodes then…
straight back to form. Laugh out loud from the off then just really fun and quite sweet.
I am a 42 year old man with Ph.D from Oxford and I know I’m supposed to know better but – this is the best fun show i’ve seen in years love it, love it, love it… and the best written series to date.
