Hilary Duff made a special visit to Edward Jenner Elementary Academy of the Arts in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011 to promote the “Blessings in a Backpack” program.
This unique program is designed to feed elementary school children whose families qualify for the federal Free and Reduced Price Meal program, and have little to no food on the weekends. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program.
“Obviously most people think about feeding people in Africa, and I think that’s really important, too, but I don’t know how we can continue to help people if we don’t fix our problems here,” Duff said.
