Favorite Thing Friday: Norwegian Epic

Never in my life had I experienced a more torturous press event than the one I attended last weekend on board the Norwegian Epic. Picture this…..

You arrive at the Port of Miami on a day where the skies are clear, the temperature well into the 80′s and you are being hugged by the Atlantic Ocean. Your on a huge ship (all 155,873 gross tons of it) where guests are arriving for a dream vacation to the Caribbean….while you watch and get off said ship before the party even begins!

Yes folks, this happened to me and I lived to tell this tale and no matter how hard I tried to find a spot to stowaway in, I wasn’t clever enough.

I was joined by fellow Social Media junkies for a tour of the Epic, beginning at the most envious end, The Villas. Not for the faint of heart, this “ship within a ship” area was created for the big money ballers who book the Deluxe Owner’s Suites, two-bedroom Family Villas, or any of the Courtyard Penthouses.

If you have the extra cash I recommend you go for it! The views are breathtaking and the service is top notch.

Another cool area was The Studio Lounge. This is the spot where travelers who decide to cruise solo can meet like minded folks, kind of like a cooler version of the rec room in college! A first in design for the cruise industry, these ultra-modern staterooms were created to fill the void for those of us who want to get away from everyone and not have to pay a double occupancy rate.

But the coolest spot (literally) was the SVEDKA Ice Bar!! It was Inspired by the original ice bars and ice hotels in Scandinavia and it’s the cruise industry’s first true ice bar at sea. This frozen chamber of ice is set in changing hues of blue, green and purple LED lighting that simulates the Northern Lights and creates a distinctive arctic atmosphere.

Norwegian’s SVEDKA Ice Bar features a bar, walls, tables, stools, glasses and life-size sculptures all made from ice. Guests are given coats, gloves and hats to keep them warm, since the room’s temperature will not rise above 17 degrees Fahrenheit – creating the ultimate chill.

Before heading out for lunch in one of the more than 20 Freestyle Dining restaurants, we visited the Epic Theater where the Blue Man group performs eight times a week, The Spiegel Tent which hosts the Cirque Dreams® Show, Headliners, an on board comedy club, the breathtaking water park with three water slides, the Rock Wall, the Bowling Alley, gym, spa and outdoor movie theater!

See why I didn’t want to leave this ship?
