Before I get into talking about this week’s excellent episode of Fringe I must give a little WOOT that Fox has renewed my current favorite show for another season. This news makes the lead in to the final four episodes of this season more exciting because now we know we won’t be left hanging in May. And that is a very good thing because I am sucked in worse than I’ve ever been.
“Bloodline” takes us back to the other side and the continuing adventures of our Alts. When we last saw Fauxlivia (Anna Torv) she had just found out she was pregnant and now she has gone and gotten herself kidnapped by some creepy doctors with big needles. She managed to get a call off to Lincoln (Seth Gabel) before she was taken though so Fringe Division is on it.
The creepy doctors are not surprisingly after her fetus which having been fathered by Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) means it will no doubt be gorgeous AND charming, but I suspect their motives lie elsewhere. They pump Fauxlivia full of drugs that accelerate her pregnancy and before too long she’s as big as a house and not at all happy about it.
What the docs don’t know is that Fauxlivia had just been tested for a condition called VPE which if she has means she won’t survive a pregnancy. She appeals to the lone female nurse in the hopes she’ll have pity and let her go but she doesn’t have much luck. This means she’ll have to do some ass-kicking which is how it should be if you ask me. Pregnant or not Fauxilivia is a bad ass.
Meanwhile Agent Lee and Fringe Division are working overtime to find her, with help from Secretary Bishop (John Noble) who finally confides in his men that Fauxlivia is carrying his grandchild. Agent Lee is a little pissed about being kept in the dark but he shrugs it off…for now. He enlists the help of the helpful cab driver Henry (Andre Royo) who has been checking up on Fauxlivia ever since he noticed she had returned after he helped her escape. Fauxlivia’s mother (Amy Madigan) also shows up to inform the team about the VPE.
Fauxlivia finally gets loose thanks to some ass-kicking and calls Lincoln, who shows up with the cavalry and they deliver her baby on the floor of a diner in Chinatown. The birth scene was amazing, and knowing that Fauxlivia might die Lincoln confesses that he loves her. The news barely seems to register though, and it isn’t clear how she feels about him yet. At least not to me. Maybe my eyes were too blurry and teary to see what happened though. Yes I cried a little and I’m not afraid to say so. Dammit.
I wasn’t on board with this pregnancy storyline when it was introduced at the end of “Immortality” but I am warming up to the idea. Between the lurking Observers and the revelation that Secretary Bishop was behind Fauxlivia’s kidnapping I am certainly intrigued. And what did the Observer mean when he said “It is happening.” He needs to be more specific from now on because he stresses me out. And what will Agent Lee and Charlie do now that they know Secretary Bishop has been lying to them? Will they go looking for AltBroyles?
Sadly Fringe is on hiatus again till April 15th when the race to the season finale begins with “Lysergic Acid Diethylamide”. Also be on the lookout for a new cast member in the form of the lovely Emily Meade of Boardwalk Empire fame. She’ll be joining the Fringe team but in which universe is not clear yet.
Fringe airs on Fox every Friday at 9pm.
