Two of the longest running soap operas of all time, All My Children and One Life to Live have been cancelled by ABC to make room for new lifestyle themed programs. Veteran actress Susan Lucci who played the role of Erica Kane on All My Children since the 70′s, released a statement about her future plans.
“It’s been a fantastic journey. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.”
The two new shows that have been added to the schedule to replace the soon-to-be defunct dramas are a food themed show called, “The Chew” (which will premiere in September 2011) and will have multiple hosts including Mario Batali, Clinton Kelly, Carla Hall from Top Chef, restaurateur Michael Symon and daughter of Daphne Oz, Daphne.
January 2012 is the premiere date for “The Revolution” and will feature stories on health and lifestyle transformations. A dedicated set of experts will be joined by rotating guest contributors including Tim Gunn, Kimberly Locke from American Idol fame, and celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak as audiences follow one womans weight loss journey each week.
Are you guys excited about the new shows or are you too sad about the demise of All My Children and One Life to Live to even think about them yet?

I am so mad. i cant believe they are cancelling All My Children. I record this show every day and I look forward to watching it while I have my dinner. This is ridiculous. I hope that another network picks them up but it doesnt seem like they will. They have a great cast. and Griffin. what a hottie. This is ridiculous
Sad-this is crazy – that is what we all need another food and lifestyle show- they will figure this out when it is too late !!!! STUPID
I am shocked and deeply saddened by the cancellation of “All My Children”. I have watched the show since the first day. i watched in high school 33 years ago and actually say Tadd Martin, Phoebe Tyler, Greg and Jenny in Tampa when they visited the area. They are like family!!!! NOOOOOO, don’t cancel it!!!!
PLEASE!!!
Eva
Even I watched All My Children during high school! After so many years I can’t believe they would cancel it. They must be saving lots of money!!
why take off the two longest running soaps … so stupid …. is this “WINNING”
Have watched Susan Lucci and cast in “All My Children,” since the beginning. Hope we will see Susan in other productions in the future. Will miss this long running show.
Yep he’s a hottie allright.
SAD! SAD!! SAD!!!!! I certainly will not be watching the new shows.
Been watching off & on since AMC’s inception, as well. Of course, ABC is anticipating the outcry. Despite that, they’ll tough it out and stick to their “Brilliant” plan. I think they went way too far off base, with Frankie swapping his dead baby, for someone else’s live one. I skipped those episodes. Guess the fans have no choice but to suck it up and get on with our lives, minus Erica. It’s gonna be hard.
I’m 47….finally get to work from home and can watch during the day, rather than wait for my DVR’d version late at night…and now they’re cancelling it? If I wanted to watch a cooking show, I’d flip to Rachel Ray (but I don’t). If I wanted a health/wellness show, I’d flip to the Dr’s or Dr. Oz (but I don’t). I’ve been watching for years!!! And this is the thanks we all get. Even back in the game show era…our soaps still survived. Hmm….I guess they think the younger viewers are more important and the opinions of the older viewers just don’t count. I’m sad and disgusted. The radio is overrun with hip hop and rap music…now this. Might as well let go of General Hospital too….I’m sure it’s not long for this world either.
I guess if enough people stop watching ABC they’ll get the message! I, too, have watched it since the beginning and record it daily. That’s something my family enjoys together. Susan Lucci is my favorite actress. She has been a good role model in her personal life, also.
soo I finally get Direct tv local channels and the last reason to watch ABC has now been cancelled..geesh..bye bye ABC. Thanks for caring what the viewers think.
WTH???? I have been watching this show since I was eleven….I am 44!!!!! I am completely floored by this!!!!!
JOIN THE BOYCOTT OF ABC !! Don’t watch their shows anymore! Don’t buy products from their sponsors! The executives of ABC basically put a knife through the heart of All My Children with shoddy support and writers who didn’t understand the heart of the show. But how in the world can they justify axing OLTL??? The best soap on TV? BOYCOTT AND SAVE OUR SOAPS!!! There’s also a plan to petition Oprah to bring them over to OWN. She loves AMC, so we can only hope. What really adds insult to injury is that they plan to replace them with a TALK SHOW and a REALITY SHOW. Yeah, we don’t have enough of those. Guess who won’t be watching!!!
There’s no way. Once the fans start yelling it will not happen.
Please, how many people grew up with Erica and Tad.
IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.
Oh boy, I can’t wait for the new ABC programming…..NOT!
The shows may be cheap to produce but they won’t produce a loyal repeat customer for the advertisers. Of course, after the Jay Leno fiasco, I hold out little hope for any network executives to have a clue about their audience. Not that they care, but I will be boycotting all ABC programming over this cheap shot. My only hope is that ABC’s advertisers will care and take their business somewhere else until ABC wises up.
The only thing a boycott of ABC & their sponsors will do, is make the actors feel good. There HAS to be a huge hue and cry over their leaving. How embarrassing for them, if there wasn’t. I will join in the boycott, but they’ll hardly miss me, as AMC is all I watch on their station, anyway. When has a program EVER been reinstated because of the fans’ protests?? As far as I know, once their decisions are made, that’s it. Sorry.
First Oprah is leaving ABC and now AMC and One life to live. All three are my favorite daytime shows! I can not stand cooking shows or weight loss shows….GAG!
I’ve been watching AMC since I was a kid, and I’m 50 yrs old. Makes no sense to cancel
SHOCKED….IRRITATED…..and FUMING….I started watching All My Children when my children were young, now 2 of my girls (both are married with children now) record and watch it just like I do then we love talking about the drama. It was great!
Coming home to watch it after a long day at work…now what…I am so disappointed.
I’ve already started DVR’ing The Young and The Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful so I can get used to them…..what else is there once AMC and OLTL are gone? I don’t hold out much hope for General Hospital. But no amount of viewer outcry will make them change their minds. It’s a done deal. The actors have gotten their notice. We’ll be seeing them on Y&R and TB&TB on CBS as they all begin looking for other work.
Didn’t ABC just make the cast of AMC move to the West Coast if they wanted to keep their jobs? ABC SUCKS!
How do people make decisions like this…I too will boycott ABC..2 of the best shows on TV!!!
All My Children is the best soap on TV! How dare ABC take it off the air!! I’ve been watching AMC since the mid 70′s and when I heard about this ridiculous cancellation, I had a lump in my throat. My favorite show…down the tubes…I wish not! ABC really should consider the comments made by all the AMC fans! I should and all you fans out there, boycot ABC. Don’t watch anything on all the ABC channels!! I hate you ABC or whoever came up with this hairbrain scheme!! I <3 AMC!
They are idiots hope they go down in flames making all these people lose their jobs so stupid always looking for the next big thing and forgetting tv is supose to be about being crative and imagintive not watching a DAM cooking show.
I’m devastated by the cancellation of AMC! I’ve been watching this soap since it started in 1970 and it’s a part of my daily life. I will miss Pine Valley and all the characters.
I scheduled my college classes to be available to watch AMC and OLTL, I am now 57 years old and still watch. I won’t watch the new shows (cooking and health), this genre is done to death. They will be looking for something to replace them soon enough but too late to save these two shows who have a huge loyal following. Big mistake, an extra penny or two of profit in the short term sometimes creates a big loss in the future, might keep that in mind.
This is a sad day to be remembered! How can ABC do this to All My Children’s loyal fans? The show can be sold to another network! If this was to happen, the storylines most become stronger! This would give them an incentive to keep the show! Shame on you ABC! Things can’t last forever, but All My Children can! Don’t get rid of a great show! Think it over again! Think about AMC’s loyal fans! What a great loss to people around the world! The whole idea of watching daytime drama is to get away from reality! That’s what acting is all about! It’s also a great loss to actors, and people involved in acting. Who will be our role models in the acting industry?
Why doesn’t the Soap Opera network buy the rights and keep it alive?
I’m another “Watcher Since College” for over 30 years.
I’m done with ABC. I will never turn it on again. I hope the whole network goes down in flames.
I will never watch ABC again. For a network with such terrible prime time shows, this is a ridiculous decision. The Chew??? Sounds ridiculous and certainly not a replacement for All My Children. This is another horrible decision by a huge network – like NBC firing Conan except a millions times worse. Who is running these networks???
I have watched this show since I was a little girl with my mom and grandma. Now I have a son who watches with me. Its my 1 hour a day to escape reality and watch my fav show. This is absolutly terrible. I do hope that another network picks it up.I have never really watched that much tv never really gotten into any series. ALL MY CHILDREN was it. Im very sad about this.
I too am infuriated about the cancellation of AMC. I DVR it every day and can not wait to get home and watch it. It has been the longest most consistant thing in my life, ever. Before DVR I watched it on Soap Net at 8:00pm, chose it over any other prime time show. I will boycott ABC as well, when AMC is gone. I love Grey’s and Off the Map, but not as much as AMC. Good bye ABC!!!
Your an absolute retard.
I will not be watching ABC daytime after AMC and OLTL go off. The new shows are a joke.
I can’t believe they are cancelling these two shows. I have been watching since the beginning and will miss both of these shows. We don’t need anymore food or reality tv shows. I look forward to watching these two shows everyday and will never watch ABC again if they take these shows away from us. THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE!!! DO NOT TAKE THESE SHOWS OFF THE AIR!!
I can’t believe the cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Live, if someone wants to watch a food show they can go to the food network and we sure do not need another talk show, I do not watch ABC that often and with out the soaps I probably wont watch it at all. I hope they realize how many viewers they will be loosing by this choice..
This is crazy has ABC lost their mind????? I won’t be watching those shows…I don’t watch those types of shows now and I have no intention of watching them then!!!!!!! When these two soaps go off you can be assured I will be also.
Maybe Oprah’s new network(OWN) will pick them up!!!!!!!!!!!!! HINT HINT HINT Oprah!!!!
I have been watching All My Children for 31 years, I am now 59 years old. I tape the show and watch it every night. For me it’s a wonderful way to relax. The characters on the show are like my friends. I was totally devastated to hear the show is being cancelled. If enough people write in, maybe there is still a chance to save the show. I will not watch ABC network after September. This really is my favorite show!!!! Do something to save it!!!!!!!!!!
damn damn damn dats all i have 2 say i been watchin them 2 shows for over 22 years damn somebody do something
I have watched both shows as long as I can remember how dare you abc
‘
I will not watch these new shows. I am bored just hearing about them. It will be an immediate failure. The network needs to save themselves and bring the soaps back. I know we are in a recession. I lost my job to it going overseas it didn’t work out and I got rehired. Find other ways to save money. These cheap shows will cost them money in the long run.
Crazy for sure! Even letting Zach go. Now he was a woman’s man too. Where is he now. What show? I will turn my channel to see Zach. To hell with the directors. They don’t know what they have done to day time television! Maybe Erica will get the reward she has been waiting for!!!!!
Year you loud and clear! They don’t know what they have done. Let’s watch the new shows not being watch. That is what will happen. We want AMC and Susan!!!!!
Linda
Me too. I’m 55 and would come home every day from school to watch.
I love HOOVER. All it is going to take is big advertisers to pull their ads from ABC like Hoover is doing and ABC will sit up and take notice. It is obvious that ABC doesn’t care what the viewers think. To announce cancelling, not ONE. but TWO shows is totally unbelievable. I don’t think two soaps have ever been cancelled at the same time, on the same network??? I am like so many of the previous people who commented, I have been watching for, just about my whole life, and for all the years I worked, I taped or DVRed them. Now that I have retired and don’t have to do that all the time, they will be gone. For me, it has been 40 years of watching and for those of us who have been watching most of our lives, these characters and stories are like extended family to us. When a primetime show gets cancelled, it is not pleasant but we haven’t had it ingrained into our SOUL like these shows. I feel like ABC may really live to regret this decision when they lose many many viewers and advertisers (who are viewers, too, just like the Hoover people). Good luck ABC without all of us!!!!!
I will not be watching the new shows on ABC that will be replacing All My Children…we already have enough cooking and style shows…I will not watching ABC period after this is all said and done…
I have been devastated by the news that All My Children, and One Life to Live is being canceled. I have watched both shows since their inception, and If I had wanted to watch a food show, I could have gone to a different network to do so. When these shows go off the air, I WILL NOT watch any TV during that time, that I would have been watching the 2 soaps. I will find something else to do, like work on my hobbies and crafts, and photo albums. Shame on ABC for canceling these shows!!!!!
NOT REALLY. I LOVED WATCHING ONE LIFE TO LIVE AND ALL MY CHILDREN OVER THE YEARS. THERE WAS A TIME I WANTED TO QUIT WATCHING ALL MY CHILDREN WHEN JOHN CALLAHAN LEFT. BUT I DECIDED TO WATCH IT AGAIN BECUASE I DO LOVE SUSAN LUCCI. I WAS SO HURT WHEN SAMUEL BALL LEFT ONE LIFE TO LIVE AND THE RAPPAPORT FAMILY GOTTEN KICKED OFF AND BEN DAVIDSON. I’M NOT REALLY OVER THAT. I DON’T LIKE THAT MELISSA ARCHER, MICHALE ESTON AND MARK LAWSON GOTTEN CASTED. I’M STILL WATCHING THEM BECAUSE SOME OF MY OLD FAVORITES ARE STILL ON. JOEY JUST CAME BACK IN 2010. CLINT IS STILL ON PLEASE DON’T KILL HIM OFF LIKE YOU DID WITH BEN,DREW,AL,LUNA, SAM,HUGH AND ASA. JUST MAKE BETTER STORY LINES STOP WITH THE DID STORY LINE IT IS MAKING ME SADDEN WHEN JESSICA MORPHS INTO SOME ONE ELSE. JESSICA IS STILL ON SHE IS ONE MINE FAVORITES. BO AND NORA IS STILL ON SAME WITH VIKI, NIGEL RENEE WHERE IS SHE AND CARLOTTA? I DON’T CARE IF YOU WANT TO CANCEL GNERAL HOSPITLA AND DAYS OF OUR LIVES. DON’T DO THAT WITH ALL MY CHILDREN AND ONE LIFE TO LIVE. AND KELLY ALSO CAME BACK IN 2010. I LOVE HER SAME WITH DORIAN AND BLAIR AND TODD AND STARR. MATTHEW IS STILL ON. I’M NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE TO THEM. I’M BEGGING YOU.
I am so sad to see these two soap operas be cancelled. I have been watching All My Children since I was 16. It seems like I grew up with Erica Kane, and many other residents of Pine Valley. I’m not 57 years old. I don’t even like seeing previews for the The Chew. If I wanted to watch a show like that I would go to the food channel. I just started watching One Life to Live a little less than a year ago. And I really like this show too. I am so mad at ABC for cancelling these two great soap operas, that I may quit even watching that channel after One Life to Life. There are alot of other channels. They should be taken off the air..
