REVIEW: Fringe “6:02am”

Happy Easter my peeps! While the rest of you are hunting eggs and avoiding creepy rabbits I am here pondering this week’s excellent episode of Fringe. For weeks the teasers have been asking “where will you be when it happens?” The when was 6:02 AM and I don’t know about you all but at 6:02am on Friday I was making breakfast. Walternate it seems was having a far more interesting morning.

Despite its awesomeness Fringe can be very frustrating. When the other universe was first revealed they were clearly our enemies. Granted, they were sexy enemies but enemies just the same. Now they’ve gone and gotten me rooting for them. I like their Lincoln Lee (Seth Gabel) and I don’t want his love for Fauxlivia to go unrequited. And Commando Astrid (Jasika Nicole) is completely bad-ass. Plus they have cool blimps and stuff like that. But our side has Peter, or as I like to think of him…my beloved Pacey Whitter (Joshua Jackson)…and even though he technically belongs to the other side I think we know where his allegiances lie. Emotional quandaries aside, this is a stand off and barring a sudden appearance by Jack Bauer I suspect it won’t end well.

In the other universe it was finally revealed that Walternate (John Noble) needed little Henry’s blood to activate the Boom-Boom machine, which he did at 6:02am and in turn flash fried a field full of sheep in our universe. (MMM lamb chops). This opens up vortexes all over our universe and activates our Boom Boom machine in the process, which totally freaks Nina (Blair Brown) out. Peter was shocked that his special touch was not needed to turn on anything and now he wonders if maybe he was meant to turn it off instead.

On the other side Fauxlivia (Anna Torv) is getting a bit suspicious of Walternate after a class 10 fringe event at Liberty Island is labled a “false alarm”. She confronts him and is given the brush off. Turns out she has feelings for Peter and doesn’t want him flash fried like the sheep. Never the blushing wall flower Fauxlivia takes matters into her own hands and pulls a gun on poor Brandon down in the Massive Dynamic lab. She makes him give her the machine Walternate used to cross over and bring Peter back. But the machine doesn’t work and Fauxlivia is detained.

Back on our side Olivia is busy hunting down Sam Weiss who apparently is the key to everything. He wrote The First People and was William Bell’s most trusted expert on all aspects of the Boom-Boom machine. Makes you wonder why he bides his time in a bowling alley, but that is beside the point. Sam is way ahead of them though and already knows the machine has been turned on. He scribbles some math formulas down that all seem to equal zero and I think that is bad.

While OIivia hunts Sam our team watches anxiously as Peter prepares to step into the Boom-Boom machine and save the world. There are some very touching moments between Peter and Astrid and then Walter that might have made me a bit misty eyed but that remains unconfirmed. Walter rubs some KY jelly on Peter’s hands tearfully sends him on his way but the experiement doesn’t last long. When Peter touches the machine he is zapped twenty feet into the air and left unconscious! Olivia arrives at the hospital later to find Peter stable but still out, and Sam finally tracks her down to tell her that the shit is about to hit the fan.

There are two episodes left in the season and I can honestly say I have no idea what is going to happen. I thought I had things figured out but I have been proven wrong already. The previews show us that Peter does indeed wake up, but previews are notoriously misleading. And what about little Henry? Olivia’s pregnancy was accelerated, does that mean his growth will be accelerated too? Will he be the size of a six year old the next time we see him like babies on soap operas? What are your theories about the season finale? Will someone die? Will one of the universes be destroyed? Will Lincoln finally get some sweet Fauxlivia lovin?

Fringe is back next Friday at 9pm on Fox.
