Grab your bourbon and your cowboy hat and meet me by the pool because TNT has finally made their much anticipated Dallas reboot official by ordering a nine episode run. This project has been in development forever and now that most of the original cast is back it sounds like the network is ready to pull the trigger.
Still no word on when the reboot will air or even what it will be called. I hope they don’t do something stupid like naming it Dallas: The Next Generation or Return to Southfork. I would be okay with The Ewings but hopefully they will just stick with Dallas. Now that I think about it The Ewings is a bit too reminiscent of The Colbys and we all remember what a hot mess THAT was. What we do know is that Dallas 2.0 will focus on the Ewing offspring — J.R. Ewing’s son John Ross (Josh Henderson from Desperate Housewives), and Christopher, the adopted son of Bobby and Pam Ewing (Jesse Metcalfe from Desperate Housewives) as they clash over the family dynasty’s future. If you are sensing a theme with the casting of so many former Desperate Housewives stars then you are not alone. Playing Bobby’s wife is none other than Brenda Strong (Mary Alice Young from Desperate Housewives). They should hire Nicolette Sheridan to play Pam’s long lost sister since there is still no indication that Victoria Principal will take time out from her makeup lessons on QVC to make it to the ranch. Plus Nicolette is just loads of fun and will look good lounging by the pool in heels and big floppy hat saying things like “Oh Bobby, you naughty boy” and “Christopher darling, be a peach and bring your auntie another cocktail”.
Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious) stars as Elena, who is involved in a love triangle with Christopher and John Ross. Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) stars as Christopher’s fiancée Rebecca. Also back on the ranch are original series stars Larry Hagman (JR), Patrick Duffy (Bobby), Linda Gray (Sue Ellen), Steve Kanaly (Ray) and Charlene Tilton (Lucy). I really really hope this does not suck. With so many old cast members back I don’t see how it could unless the writing is abysmal and they relocate to another Southfork. The house is as much a character as JR is so NOT using the old ranch would just be silly.
Stay tuned for more info on this epic television event. We should be getting some set photos and air dates before too much longer.
