If you aren’t already a fan of Eureka, after seeing and hearing about Erica Cerra will make you turn your dial to the Syfy Channel! (Even though we recently found out the show wasn’t returning for another season!!)

The breathtakingly beautiful Cerra stars as Deputy Jo Lupo in the science fiction television series about a fictional town called Eureka, Oregon, located in the Pacific Northwest. What makes this city unique is that it happens to be inhabited almost entirely by geniuses and scientists!

Our friend Charles Briede from FellowshipofFools.com spoke to Erica this week on our behalf about the upcoming season.

C. Briede: Going into each new season, do you know the direction of the show and your character or do you find out week to week as the scripts come in?

E. Cerra: “Sort of both, we have an idea, we get an outline as to where the season is starting off and where that would like to see it end. They can leave things open-ended for themselves and come up with different ideas or something that might happen in the show and inspire them.

C. Briede: What can fans expect for the current season?

E. Cerra: Lots of cool stuff will be happening and that Jo will be doing? More surprises and twists and turns, throughout the entire season.

C. Briede: Do you work a lot with the green screen on Eureka?

E. Cerra: It is only used for the really big explosions or inventions. Generally we don’t use a lot of green screen since a lot of what you see is built. We have a lot of props and a lot of things that are built. That being said, I actually really enjoy working with a green screen because it gives you the opportunity to use your imagination.

C. Briede: There have been a lot of guest stars on and I am curious if you have had any favorites?

E. Cerra: Yes, my favorites would be when people who used to be on the show come back on. Like when Jordan Hinson or Matt Frewer come back on because I miss them. It is always nice to have them come back on, it’s like the family is back together. Every single guest star we have had has been a lot of fun. It’s the new ideas and new energy; I think it’s a lot of fun to have anyone new on. It is always a positive experience for me.

C. Briede: Did your role require any special training?

E. Cerra: I don’t know that it did. There is no substantial training but we have an idea of what we are supposed to be doing and what will make it look the best. I picked up some books before we started the show and read up on women in the military. I familiarized myself with what that would be and ask a lot of questions about guns and how they work and so forth. I myself have had martial arts training when I was younger. That was something I have continued to do and loved to do. It is sort of a yes and no answer but nothing extensive.

C. Briede: Are you able to do your own stunts or does the network prefer to limit it due to the risk of injury?

E. Cerra: A little bit of both. I try to do as many as I can. I do stuff I like to do, I like to punch and kick. I want to make sure it can look as good as I can make it. That’s not to say that our stunt girls aren’t great. A lot of the really big stunts our stunt girls get involved.

C. Briede: Do you have a favorite episode?

E. Cerra: I don’t know if I have a favorite one. Collectively last season and this season have been my favorites. I have enjoyed every script for different reasons.

Our Christmas episode this year will probably be my favorite, but I can’t tell you what it’s about. I think it is going to be really really neat. I think the fans are going to really enjoy it.
