Salma Hayek proud to let daughter Valentina see her in new role

Salma Hayek continued her promotions for her latest project Puss in Boots in The Big Apple this evening. After being spotted by photographers as she made her arrival at The Ed Sullivan Theatre for a special appearance at The Late Show with David Letterman, the Mexican beauty attended a New York screening of the DreamWorks animated film held at The Hearst Tower.

When the mommy-of-one made a stop in Miami to kick-off the promotional tour aboard Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas last week, she told us how proud her daughter Valentina is of her new role as Kitty Softpaws in the Shrek spin-off.

“I am so proud for her to see it,” Salma told us on the red carpet. “She saw it and she loves it!”

She was so sweet she complemented me on my lipstick and was not at all surprised when I told her it was Dusty Rose from the Nuance by Salma Hayek line from CVS! She said the color worked great on me!!

Talk about best day ever….

I briefly asked her co-star Antonio Banderas about the Sony Pictures Zorro prequel based on Isabelle Allende’s book that is currently in the works, because we’d love to see this sexy Spaniard back in the role no matter how small! Sadly told me he is not interested in participating in this film. :(

Make sure to run to theaters to see this fun family film when it hits theaters on October 28th.

REVIEW: The Walking Dead “Bloodletting”

Not much happened this week on AMC’s zombie party The Walking Dead and that’s okay. Mindless brain-sucking meat bags shuffling around in the Georgia heat gets old really fast so when things slow down for some good old character drama I get a little excited. I got even more excited when the episode kicked off with a flashback to a time before the zombie apocalypse when Lori was faced with Rick being shot in the line of duty right after they had a nasty fight. It was odd seeing Lori with makeup on.

When we left our survivors little Carl had just been shot by a hunter and we pick up with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) hoofing it through the woods toward a farmhouse. The shooter, a portly gentleman whose neck might be slightly red named Otis was doing his best to keep up, encouraged by a somewhat angry and worried Shane (Jon Bernthal). The farm belongs to Otis’ family and there is a doctor there. Nice coincidence right? Well don’t get too comfy because this doc is a vet but still thinks he can help the little tyke and what other options do they have? Rick wants Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) there but he can’t leave so one of the doctor’s kids heads out to find her while Shane and Otis head to the local high school to get some supplies to help Carl.

Meanwhile out in the woods the others (minus Dale and T-Dog) are still looking for Carol’s missing daughter but aren’t having much luck. Things get even hairier when Andrea (Laurie Holden) has a close call with a walker that really messes with her head. The doctor’s daughter shows up on horseback and saves Andrea, then whisks Lori away back to the farm. She tells the others how to find them and they head back to the highway where T-Dog has been trying to convince Dale to ditch the others and leave.

With Sophia still missing they send Glenn to the farm while they stay behind to make a sign telling Sophia where they went. Glenn (Steven Yeun) takes T-Dog along to get some meds because the infection from his cut has been making him crazy. Andrea is not handling her near miss with the walker well and Shane and Otis have run into another herd of walkers at the high school. Most of this episode was spent establishing how close Shane and Rick are and dealing with the gravity of Carl’s condition. You have to wonder if Lori and Rick are wondering if saving Carl is the best thing given the bleak outlook for their future. Of course a parent’s first instinct is to do anything to save the kid but I suspect as this situation draws on longer they will ask some hard questions.

And how much of what T-Dog was ranting about was fever induced? Daryl’s attitude toward the group and T-Dog in particular has certainly improved and he is by far the most resourceful one of the bunch. He did come to T-Dog’s rescue yet again this week when he produced his presumably dead brother’s stash of drugs. Things are looking bad for Otis and Shane at the school though. Funny how quick on their feet the zombies become when food shows up.

As I mentioned before I get bored with zombies very quickly so it says something about the writing on this show (to me at least) that I find it interesting enough to tune in every week. Having never read the graphic novel I have no idea what lies at the end of this tale. Something tells me it isn’t a cure or the revelation it was all a dream so I plan on enjoying the ride until the inevitable downbeat conclusion, and a nice low key episode like “Bloodletting” is a welcome distraction from all the brain-eating.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC every Sunday night at 9.

Review: Pan Am “One Coin in a Fountain”

Pan Am continues to delight and amaze me each week and I just love it to pieces. This is a show that given the chance to grow (hello ABC) could turn into something really special. The potential for evolving stories and new characters moving in and out is endless and we have the whole world to visit. Plus it is summer 1963 and things are about to change dramatically come November when Maggie’s beloved President Kennedy takes his final plane ride. Then there is Vietnam on the horizon…the list goes on. And with a cast like this the sky is literally the limit. So why hasn’t ABC announced whether or not Pan Am is being picked up for a full season? You got me. This is easily one of the top five new shows this season and with other shows dropping like flies it seems like a no brainer.

This week the Clipper Majestic headed to Monte Carlo by way of London where Kate (Kelli Garner) finds out her duties are moving beyond the usual courier stuff and into real espionage. Her mission this time is to procure the fingerprints of a Russian agent who will be gambling in Monte Carlo with a handsome passenger named Niko Lonza (Goran Visnjic) and has already taken a liking to sassy Maggie (Christina Ricci). Her sister Laura (Margot Robbie) is distracted by her desire to return her engagement ring to her jilted fiance Greg and is very distressed when she finds out the pawn shop sold it. Ted’s (Michael Mosley) relentless and adorably bumbling pursuit of her isn’t helping either. Captain Dean (Mike Vogel) has his own distractions when a gorgeous passenger storms into the cockpit wearing her fur coat and takes a liking to the young pilot.

Kate really proves her worth as an undercover agent in this one when she turns on the charm and uses her mad skills with a pool cue to draw Nico’s attention from Maggie who is none too pleased with Kate’s sudden competitive streak. Maggie gets her back though in a very clever and playful way and Kate’s mission is on. The final piece of the puzzle though is a stunning green dress that the girls were admiring upon arrival at the hotel. Let’s pause for a moment and bask in its glory.

Even a great dress can’t solve everything though as Kate finds out when the Russian agent arrives wearing gloves. It doesn’t take her long to manipulate the situation to her advantage and she has the womans gloves off in a flash thanks to a well-placed glass of red wine. Well played Agent Cameron! Well played indeed!

Missing out on all this intrigue was Captain Dean who was abducted by Ginny the saucy minx from the cockpit and whisked around Monte Carlo for a day of fast cars and loose women. And just when Dean thinks life can’t get any better he finds out Ginny to the personal secretary/mistress of the Vice President of Pan Am. After a near miss with a misplaced room key Dean thinks their little affair went unnoticed but something tells me this will come back to haunt him.

Finally, Ted showed us once again that he isn’t quite the sexist cad we took him for in the first couple of episodes. Upon learning of Laura’s plan to head to Harlem unchapperoned to buy back her engagement ring he offers to tag along for protection. Once there he realizes she is being taken advantage of by the new owner of the ring and steps in, even though Laura doesn’t want his help. She leaves without the ring and with a new found hatred for Ted until he reveals he went back and secured the precious trinket by trading his prized Rolex. And who said chivalry is dead! I love the banter between these two.

With an ensemble cast like this it’s hard to let everyone shine so Maggie and Colette took a back seat this week. But from the looks of the previews for next week Maggie is about to step back into the spot light in a big way. Pan Am arrives at your gate next Sunday night at 10pm on ABC.

Scarlett Johansson goes brunette in Glasgow for new film

I’m not sure if she is wearing a wig or not, but you can’t help but hate on someone like Scarlett Johansson who can pull off nearly any hair color and look amazing! The new brunette look is for ScarJo’s new film, Under the Skin which is currently shooting in Glasgow, Scotland.

In these images shot earlier today (October 24th), the 26-year-old was spotted wearing a pair of acid wash jeans, ratty fur coat, and matching high-heeled booties.

The science fiction drama is an adaptation of Michael Faber‘s novel and tells the story of an alien woman who comes to Earth with her people to abduct hitchhikers and take them back to their planet. You see…. where she is from, human meat is a delicacy!

Under the Skin is being directed by Jonathan Glazer.

REVIEW: Desperate Housewives “The Art of Making Art”

The fragile thread that holds the colorful quilt of drama we call Desperate Housewives together has begun to slowly unravel and we are only five episodes into the final season. Friendships are strained, marriages collapsing and it is only a matter of time before that dead body in the woods is dug up, and by matter of time I mean just in time for November sweeps.

Lynette (Felicity Huffman) and Tom (Doug Savant) have finally started couples counseling and it is going just about as well as you would expect it to be with Tom doing alot of pointing and eye rolling and Lynette making inflamatory noises in his general direction. At least they have established that they both should be dating and/or sleeping with other people so they can be 100% sure they can’t find anything better and Lynette is not one to take a challenge lying down…well maybe except this one. After a disasterous attempt at online dating Renee talks her into a night of bar hopping. This is also a generally terrible idea until Lynette meets a handsome divorced father of two (Richard Ruccolo) whom she mistakes for the valet. After some small talk she finds herself liplocked with the hunk back at his apartment, but freaks out and bolts after she drops her wedding ring.

Gabby’s (Eva Longoria) first big job as the president of the PTA isn’t going so well either. When she’s late for a meeting because of a hot-stone massage that ran long the ladies with “normal lives” are not amused. And Gabby, more out of touch than ever before buys them with a visit from her beauty squad which just makes things worse. Meanwhile Carlos is at home getting drunk because he’s sad about the man he killed and Mike (James Denton) won’t let him talk to his BFF Susan about it anymore. I have to say I was surprised by Mike’s reaction here after being so supportive of Susan. Seems like he could appreciate the benefits of being able to talk to someone about it and his assuming that Susan doesn’t want the same is no doubt leading her down a road to a big nasty breakdown…probably involving nudity and or more internet porn. Sorry I got sidetracked a bit. Gabby calls Carlos to help finish setting up for the big PTA Teacher Appreciation Night and he arrives all drunk and tragic which surprisingly gains her the sympathy and support of the other PTA ladies.

Also a bit tragic but not drunk…yet…is Bree (Marcia Cross) who is feeling very unholy and less than Godlike now that she has participated in the cover up of a murder. To regain her status as the moral compass of Wisteria Lane she reaches out to neighbor and Aussie hunk Ben to offer her help at the homeless shelter. It isn’t long before the sad state of the meals being served to the poor and downtrodden has Bree whipping up one of her famous bisques. When the news gets out local hipsters and food bloggers start showing up instead, because food bloggers and hipsters would totally go hang out at a homeless shelter with their laptops right? Reverend Sykes guilts her into kicking her adoring fans out and she does so with a heartwrenching speech about the homeless which prompts Ben to seek her help convincing the city council to let him build his low income housing project. I’ll give you two guesses where he wants to build it. We’ll come back to that.

Oh Susan (Teri Hatcher), how long has it been since we’ve seen you naked? It feels like only last season when you barely had any clothes on ever so this week when art genius Andre Zeller told the class he wanted them to paint in the nude it was like coming home again. And to think the whole thing was your fault because you got the giggles while painting a naked man. Imagine that! At least you piqued the interest of Zeller enough for him to come begging you to rejoin the class after your dramatic exit. I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that very soon we’ll see a dramatic painting expunged from the corrupt and tormented depths of your soul depicting a dead body in the woods surrounded by four weeping housewives and one annoyed looking Renee. Am I close?

Next week is Halloween on Wisteria Lane and I’m betting our girls get a few more tricks than treats. Tune in Sunday at 9pm on ABC to find out.
