REVIEW: Desperate Housewives “Suspicion Song”

Despite some mostly predictably plot developments “Suspicion Song” was a solid hour of drama on Desperate Housewives. Again I must apologize for skipping a week with these reviews. I had my own desperate drama to deal with in the form of way too much crap going on at work.

The action kicked off immediately this week with Bree (Marcia Cross) waking up to the sounds of an intruder in her house. Bree is a smart girl though and immediately calls the cops, gives the wrong address (4355 instead of 4354) and rushes downstairs with a firearm where she finds Chuck (Jonathan Cake) lurking around her foyer. The creepy cop claimed he responded to her 911 call but I’m not convinced it wasn’t him snooping for clues now that he is hot on the trail of Gabby’s missing stepfather.

Lynette gets a surprise when flowers arrive from Tom (Doug Savant) for their anniversary and everyone but her realizes they were sent because of a standing order at the florist and not because Tom wants to reconcile. After a conversation when a potential design client she decides to perm her hair, put on a slinky dress, steal a key to his apartment and head over there. Of course she ends up catching Tom and Dana pre-coitus and of course ends up embarrassing herself and her reaction was heartbreaking. You could see the slow transition in her face as she accepted her marriage was over. Well played Felicity Huffman!

I have to say Susan (Teri Hatcher) surprised me this week. After weeks of trying to get Andre Zeller’s approval in art class she has finally had enough, so when he brings in a prestigious and short gallery owner Felix Bergman (Leslie Jordan) she is less than impressed. That is until he heaps praise on her work and insists it be shown in his gallery.

Felix – “You’re like a sexy suburban Georgia O’Keeffe without all those pesky vaginas.”

Felix’s other memorable quote “I smell fear and mediocrity” was an obvious nod to his character on Will & Grace and that’s okay. I love Leslie Jordan to pieces. If you haven’t seen his one man show My Trip Down the Pink Carpet or the movie Sordid Lives rent them both immediately.

Given that Susan’s artistic expressions involve detailed images of the crime she and her friends committed they obviously cannot be displayed so naturally they end up on the wall in the gallery thanks to an intervention from Zeller who thinks it high time Susan had “greatest thrust upon her”. I think this may be the first time that the hurricane of fail that surrounds Susan wasn’t directly Susan’s fault. Granted, she did paint the darn things which are as Bree puts it “an artistic confession” but she did forbid Zeller to display then. And it was Zeller who gave them to Bergman without Susan’s approval, which is something Susan would have done if the roles were reversed actually, so maybe this was Susan’s fault after all.

The snobbish art community of Fairview goes nuts for the paintings of course but no one is as impressed as Chuck who is about 14 seconds away from putting all the pieces of this puzzle together. I loved when Bree got all up in his face and told him to charge her with a crime or “get the hell off her street!” Bree is so badass. And am I the only one who would love to have that painting of the four girls burying the body hanging in their living room?

Down at Casa Du Solis (4349 Wisteria Lane) Carlos is still drunk and rocking a bad fro and it is starting to affect his job. Gabby (Eva Longoria) convinces him to take a week off and heads to the office to take care of payroll where she unwittingly gives a very cute but backstabbing contractor named Geoffrey the means to sabotage Carlos by stealing his biggest client. When the news of the real reason Carlos is missing work gets out the client demands to speak with him. Turns out he was an alcoholic too and he convinces Carlos to go to rehab. It wasn’t shown but I’m guessing Geoffrey ends up getting fired. He’ll be okay though. The pretty boys always are.

With no body to prove the crime it is unlikely that Chuck will ever come up with enough evidence to charge any of the girls with anything at all unless someone confesses or someone on Ben’s construction staff fesses up to finding the body. Bree is at her breaking point though as we saw when she took that drink of wine at the end of the hour, so she may end up shooting Chuck and burying him in the woods too! Okay maybe not. He is a cop after all, but I don’t see this ending well for him. As for the girls I think it’s going to take something big to bring them together again. What else could this final season have in store for us?

Desperate Housewives is taking a break for the holidays and won’t be back until December 4.

Lea Black shares her secret to Sudden Youth with Miami influencers

You may know her from her recent stint on the Real Housewives of Miami, but Lea Black has been a star in the city of Miami for more years than I can remember. Lea has been supporting the community for at least fifteen years now alongside husband (who just so happens to be one of the top criminal defense attorneys in the country!) Roy Black via the most coveted event of the year: The Blacks Annual Gala.

Yes she is fabulous and lucky for me she was willing to share some of her secrets of fabulosity during a special lunch with a selected group of Miami influencers recently at Fratelli Lyon in Miami’s Design District.

We were met with a beautiful display of a product called Sudden Youth which claims to be “The Non Surgical Facelift Kit.” Is this Lea’s secret to staying so youthful, I wondered?

Apparently so.

Some of the gals in our group decided to find out for themselves right there at the restaurant by getting mini-facials with a mixture of the lift powder and gel which contains a highly effective concentrate of echinacea purpurea.

You have to see what this product can do to believe it! As it begins to dry, you can see it begin to lift the eyebrow, lip and face. I have since tried this at home and the results are A-MAZING!

Here is a list of products available from the Sudden Youth collection that we were introduced to:

* Facial Contour Lift Powder
* Pearlized Facial Wash
* Facial Contour Lift Gel
* Apple Stem Cell Light Moisturizer
* Apple Stem Cell Light Serum
* Apple Stem Cell Intense Eye Cream

For more information on how you can order this revolutionary product, check out the official website at SuddenYouth.com

P.S. Stay tuned for my full review of these products in the near future

Make-up Monday: Estée Lauder Cyber Eyes

Over the summer, I acquired an obsession with nail lacquers.  I couldn’t acquire enough of them, I had to have every new shade as soon as they would hit shelves!  Now I’m not saying that I have given up my affection for them but my current crush is on eye liners.

With so many women having to bundle up during the winter months, liners in different shades will be this seasons “must have” beauty accessory!

So might I turn your attention to my current FAVORITE eye product:Pure Color Cyber Eyes from Estée Lauder. The name itself makes you think of something sexy and forbidden.

This collection is the result of a collaboration between Estée Lauder and Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux and includes eyeshadows in richly pigmented shades with a futuristic, hyper- metallic finish, eye pencils that dazzle and define eyes in strikingly chic hues and mascaras that create a lush display of vibrant color.

I tried out the Pure Color Intense Kajal EyeLiner ($20.00) and Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara ($23.50) in Electric Teal. The deep pigment in the pencil made a perfect combination with my deep brown eyes and olive skin tone.

I’m SUPER picky when it comes to mascara because I have such a hard time finding one that will curl my extremely straight lashes. But because the folks at Estée Lauder created an oversized brush with a unique shape, it really got my lashes into a nice curl!

I’m not sure that it mattered that it had some color to it because my hair is really dark but the curling action was fantastic!

The collection has something for everyone with shades called Cyber Copper, Cyber Pink, Cyber Lilac, Cyber Silver, and Cyber Green. The Pure Color Cyber Eyes line will be available for a limited time at all Estée Lauder counters nationwide, www.esteelauder.com and major international airports starting in November 2011.

REVIEW: Pan Am “Unscheduled Departure”

Big drama this week on Pan Am as the crew of the Clipper Majestic are forced to make an emergency landing in Haiti and barely make it out alive in what might have been the best episode of the season so far. First, many apologies for not posting about last week’s episode “Truth or Dare”. Work has been especially crazy the past few weeks and I just didn’t have the energy to stay up and watch on Sunday. I won’t let it happen again. Just in case you didn’t see it either, here is a quick rundown of recent events:

The crew of the Majestic shuttled a plane full of US sailors back home to New York. During a game of truth or dare on board Laura (Margot Robbie) reveals she posed nude for the Life magazine man and Colette (Karine Vanasse) reveals she always wanted to fly a plane. Once airborne Laura meets a young black sailor named Joe who ends up at a party at Maggie’s house later that evening. He spends the night and when he and Laura go sightseeing the next day he gets into a scuffle with some racists at the bus station. Meanwhile Kate (Kelli Garner) is upset when her handlers rough up Nico and force him to spy for them or suffer the wrath of his secret police. She is furious at how the operation was handled but convinces him to help them. At the end he is sent home to Yugoslavia but not before forgiving Kate and professing his love. Oh and Colette got her chance to fly during a very sweet moment in the cockpit with Dean.

Now…on to this week. WOW what an episode! In the wake of Hurricane Ginny (see what they did there?) the Majestic is forced to land in Haiti when a passenger named Henry has a heart attack on board only to find the country under siege and a doctor unwilling to help. Colette manages to get some medicine from him and pick up an orphaned girl before getting back to the plane but it’s too late. Poor Henry has died and the problems for the Majestic are just beginning. The storm has destroyed part of the runway and the plane is too heavy to take off.

The temporary flight engineer (Sanjeev is on vacation in Bombay) is all gloom and doom and wants to quote regulations all day but Ted (Michael Mosley) and Dean (Mike Vogel) aren’t having it. After ditching the luggage, some fuel and poor Henry the plane makes a harrowing escape just as Papa Doc’s rebels storm the airport. I don’t know how technically accurate this episode was in regards to what a fully loaded 707 can or can’t do but I really don’t care. This was some compelling television.

The girls really kicked ass this week. The way Maggie (Christina Ricci) and Laura handled the Haitian rebels who boarded the plane was awesome, and Maggie just flat out owned that douche Miguel. Grace under pressure indeed! For once Kate didn’t have a mission and spent her time comforting our ailing patient until help comes, and she’s the one who suggests leaving his body behind to make room for the orphaned Haitian girl. I also loved that Colette stepped up and pretty much became the heroine of this episode all because she speaks French and she is fierce.

I loved the incredulous look on the new flight engineers face when Dean gave her the headset to talk to the tower. Then when Ted gave the poor guy the smack down in defense of Dean’s flying skills I wanted to cheer. That moment said everything we needed to know about this flight team. The bond these guys have extends to the girls as well and it shows when they all fess up to bringing the stowaway on board to avoid anyone getting punished. Kate pulls some strings to get the girl a green card and a foster home and the hour ends with some warm fuzzies and Colette planting a big wet one on Dean. I am totally Team CoDean! Vous allez fille!

Pan Am is taking a break for the holiday and won’t be back until December 4.

Mandy Moore prepares for the winter months

No matter where you live, everyone is affected by the winter some way or another. Everyone must think that because I live in Florida I don’t go through many of the problems that people in the colder states go through but its just not true.

And as you can tell by these new images of Mandy Moore, she too is starting to feel the touch of winter on her skin as she spreads a bit of lotion after departing from a local Rite Aid in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, November 12th, 2011.

Whatever the 27-year-old is doing as part of her beauty regime is working brilliantly!

The avid fight fan wrapped up her Saturday enjoying the UFC Live Heavyweight Championship where Brazilian Junio Dos Santos beat Cain Velasquez.

Michelle Williams premieres ‘My Week with Marilyn’ in New York City

Michelle Williams looked spectacular during the My Week With Marilyn New York premiere held at The Paris Theatre on Sunday, November 13th, 2011 in New York City. Joining her on the lush red carpet were co-stars Zoe Wanamaker, Kenneth Branagh, Dominic Cooper and director Simon Curtis.

Also striking a fashionable pose were Morena Baccarin and fashion designers Margherita Missoni and Rachael Roy.

I had the chance to preview the trailer for the dramatic film on Friday before the Immortals and I am so excited to see it! There is a reason Michelle Williams is getting rave reviews for her portrayal of the infamous blond bombshell.

The film follows Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier’s (Branagh), documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe (Williams) during production of The Prince and the Showgirl.

My Week With Marilyn opens in theaters on November 23rd.
