With Latina’s heating up “best dressed lists” all over the web, I’ve got some juicy scoop on how you can re-create one of my favorite Teen Choice Award looks! The Secret Life of the American Teenager star Francia Raisa looked flawless in a short Armani dress as she posed on the pink carpet with besties JoJo and Selena Gomez at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
I spoke to celebrity stylist Etienne Ortega, who worked his magical fingers on the Latina’s hair and make-up for the awards, and he gave us the play-by-play so that you can re-create the look at home! One of my favorite things about the details is that Etienne uses a variety of products, as I’m sure many of you ladies also do at home.
The other thing I loved was that he considered Francia’s age when deciding on her look. I can’t express how important “age appropriateness” is when wardrobe, hair, AND make-up are concerned.
But of course Ortega, who has worked with stars like Eva Longoria, Karina Smirnoff, Fernanda Romero, Joanna Krupa and Aubrey O’Day (to name a few!), knew what he is doing! He chose this look specifically for Francia since she enjoys leaving her hair loose when out on the town.
Inspiration:
“I found inspiration for Francia’s hair and make-up from her beautiful Armani dress,” Etienne said. “I kept her look a bit futuristic while keeping it fun and fresh, perfect for the Teen Choice Awards. It reminded me, as an artist, how to have fun!”
Make-Up Technique:
-With the weather in California keeping quite warm during the day, I started off by using Embryolisse Moisturizer to keep her skin hydrated.
-Next I applied MAC brow pencil in “Lingering” and Mac Brow Gel in “Beguile” to her perfectly arched brows.
-Since Francia was in for a long night, I primed her eyes with MAC “Painterly” to extend the life of the shadow which included purples and blues such as MAC’s “Parfait Amour,” “Deep Truth” and a touch of “texture” on the crease and “mylar” on the lid.
-I used one of my favorite foundations– Make Up Forever HD on her skin followed by Kryolan Concealer which I set with Laura Mercier’s under eye setting powder. This kept the 23-year-old looking fresh-faced and flawless for hours!
-Want to score Francia’s glow? Grab CoverGirl’s “classic pink” blush and Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion.
-To kick-up the volume of her eyes, I applied Ardell indivudual lashes with a heavy coat of L’Oreal Voluminous “carbon black” on top and bottom lashes.
- I finished her look with Smashbox “soft nude” lip liner followed by Smashbox “infinite” long wear lipgloss.
Hair Technique:
Francia has great cheek bones and I wanted to show them off with a funky, retro hairstyle!
-I washed and pre-dried her hair before working in some Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam. I used the blow dryer again to ensure her hair was fully dry and then ran a hair iron through her strands.
-I slicked up her hair into a pony tail with a hint of Crew Pomade mixed with Paul Mitchell Super Skinny.
-I kept the crown section out, used a hot tools 1 1/4 curling iron to put some wake into the hair then I set it into place backcombing and brushing her look into place.
-To finish her look, I set the hair with Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray.
Will this look work for you?
Etienne says anyone can rock this look when you’re feeling more on the artsy playful side.
